    s Office Accreditation Accreditation What is Accreditation Accreditation is the recognition that an institution maintains standards requisite for its graduates to gain admission to other reputable institutions of higher learning or to achieve credentials for professional practice The goal of accreditation is to ensure that education provided by institutions of higher education meets acceptable levels of quality There are two basic types of educational accreditation one identified as institutional and one referred to as specialized or programmatic Institutional accreditation normally applies to an entire institution indicating that each of an institution s parts is contributing to the achievement of the institution s objectives although not necessarily all at the same level of quality Specialized accreditation normally applies to the evaluation of programs departments or schools which usually are parts of a total collegiate or other postsecondary institution The unit accredited may be as large as a college or school within a university or as small as a curriculum within a discipline Institutional Accreditation Stanislaus State received its first full accreditation in 1965 full re accreditations in 1999 and 2010 Western Association of Schools and Colleges 985 Atlantic Avenue Suite 100 Alameda CA 94501 Phone 510 748 9001 Fax 510 748

  • CSU Stanislaus Celebrates 10 Years on List of Nation’s Best Colleges | California State University Stanislaus
    10th consecutive year California State University Stanislaus has earned a spot on the Princeton Review s prestigious list of the nation s best 380 colleges According to the Princeton Review website the staff selects colleges primarily based on our high opinion of their academics It collects data on more than 2 000 schools for the lists and rankings it includes in its annual guide to colleges which it first published in 1992 To be among the best for academics is a wonderful reflection of our University especially our faculty President Joseph F Sheley said And to be ranked for 10 consecutive years is a significant achievement CSU Stanislaus joins Sonoma State as the only two members of the CSU system on the Top 380 list which includes seven members of the University of California system Unlike Money magazine which last month named CSU Stanislaus the nation s top public value added university the Princeton Review does not rank the schools on its list The New York City based publication also compiles a list of the top schools by region which pares down the initial roster of more than 2 000 schools to the 649 it splits geographically CSU Stanislaus is

  • Five Claim Awards at State Geographical Society Conference | California State University Stanislaus
    took home honors from the 69th annual conference of the California Geographical Society CGS held May 1 3 at Humboldt State University but they were far from the only beneficiaries Within three days of the students return to campus Jennifer Helzer director of the geography program received a phone call from a student at Sacramento State According to Helzer the student s advisor attended the conference and after hearing the presentations saw CSU Stanislaus as a good graduate school fit for the student We ve been building for several years toward having this kind of success at the conference Helzer said This is a conference that is very supportive of students many of whom are presenting papers for the first time This success is a feather in our caps and in many ways helps to put our program on the map Graduate student Heather Lewis was awarded the CGS David Lantis graduate scholarship at the conference while Stephanie Lopez was awarded the CGS David Lantis undergraduate scholarship In addition anthropology student Alex Veasey took second place in the professional paper cartography competition for her archaeological site risk assessment within the boundary of last year s rim fire in the Stanislaus

    Life Giving You are here Home Nursing Program Ranked Highly Among Schools in the West Nursing Program Ranked Highly Among Schools in the West March 19 2015 The CSU Stanislaus School of Nursing has been ranked 26th out of 442 nursing schools in the America s Best Nursing Schools West Region list published by NurseJournal org To determine the rankings 20 metrics were grouped into categories that examined quality affordability convenience satisfaction and value We believe that a good nursing school provides a quality education at a reasonable cost and offers education options that make it easier for today s busy students to attend NurseJournal org said on its website The nursing program which is housed in the recently renovated Science 1 building benefits from a high tech simulation lab that boosts the University s ability to educate future nurses Nearly all of the nursing graduates from CSU Stanislaus find jobs within the six county region served by the University I was thrilled to learn that we were ranked in the top 5 percent of nursing schools in the western states We strive for excellence and we are proud of our high retention and completion rates said Debra Tavernier director of the School of Nursing Students who are admitted to the nursing program at CSU Stanislaus are committed and hardworking Tavernier said The program s small size enables faculty members to identify and assist struggling students early on As a result more then 94 percent of students who complete the program pass the national nursing examination on their first try The work that we do in the School of Nursing is recognized by our community partners who often comment that our graduates are ready to work on their first day Tavernier said They also praise our students ability to think

  • University Earns Carnegie Foundation Recognition for Community Engagement | California State University Stanislaus
    quality of life in the Central Valley The Carnegie Foundation has recognized this dedication by honoring CSU Stanislaus as a recipient of the 2015 Community Engagement Classification a distinction shared by less than 15 percent of four year colleges and universities in the United States It is heartening to see this level of commitment and activity the foundation said in its letter notifying the University of the honor There is much to celebrate The recognition comes less than a month after CSU Stanislaus earned a place on the 2014 President s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll the highest federal distinction for a university s commitment to service learning and civic engagement Julie Fox director of the Office of Student Learning said the Carnegie Foundation recognition was bestowed only after a thorough assessment of the University s academics culture and commitment to civic engagement In a way it s like an accreditation process Fox said Carnegie assessed not only the scope of our service learning projects but their impact on the campus and the broader community As I have said many times I am in awe of the dedication of our faculty staff and students and their desire to make a difference in others lives All four colleges and nearly 60 percent of academic departments offer service learning opportunities where classroom instruction combines with field work to create a powerful educational experience Jennifer Helzer the service learning faculty liaison applies service learning in many of her geography classes to show the practical application of theory Her students have trained local teachers in geographic information systems technology assisted the city of Turlock with research for planning issues and helped the Modesto Art Museum identify urban design districts It s exciting to see students thinking critically about the region and engaging in
