    Parents Faculty Staff Alumni Donors Community About Academics Admissions Athletics Campus Life Giving You are here Home MS in Genetic Counseling MS in Genetic Counseling CSU Stanislaus Genetic Counseling Masters Program in San Francisco Bay Area The graduate program in genetic counseling is a two year master of science program established as a collaborative between California State University Stanislaus University of California San Francisco and Kaiser Permanente Useful Links National Society of Genetic Counselors American Society of Human Genetics American Board of Genetic Counseling Classes will be located in the vibrant San Francisco Bay area with its rich diversity of people easy access to natural beauty and exciting cultural and recreational activities The area has a wonderful community of genetic professionals with a long history of training genetic counselors upon which to draw for their expertise teaching and clinical supervision Accreditation This program is accredited by the American Board of genetic Counseling ABGC and approved by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges WASC Graduates from this program will meet all the education and training criteria to apply to the ABGC for Active Candidate Status and to sit for the Certification Examination The Genetic Counseling Field Genetic counselors are health professionals with specialized graduate degrees and experience in the areas of medical genetics and counseling Counselors enter the field from a variety of disciplines including biology genetics nursing psychology public health and social work Genetic counselors work as members of a health care team providing information and support to families who have members with birth defects or genetic disorders and to families and individuals who may be at risk for a variety of inherited conditions They identify families at risk investigate the problem interpret information about the disorder analyze inheritance patterns and risks of recurrence and review available options with
