    to get the new school year under way according Vicki Gilmer Fort Rucker Elementary School principal I am super excited about starting the new school year she said We have a phenomenal year planned for our FRES families and we re really excited to get the year under way Parents walked with their children to their classrooms and got the chance to introduce themselves to their children s new teachers and although some were nervous to get the new year started some were downright happy I get to be in a class with a lot of my friends so I think this is going to be a lot of fun said Charlie Planter FRES student I can t wait to use my new school supplies I think that s the most fun part The first day of school can also provide mixed emotions for parents as Planter s mother Dana described It s always a mix of feelings when you drop your children off at school at the beginning of the year she said You get so used to having them around throughout the summer and then they re gone for most of the day again It provides some relief because I know they re in good hands but you still miss them Sometimes tears can be common at Fort Rucker Primary School where parents are dropping their children off to school for the first time according to Melissa Heitzenroder FRPS school secretary but parents are comforted knowing that their children will be well taken care of Our first day of school was amazing said Heitzenroder The kids were all excited and we actually had fewer children and parents cry this year than in previous years Everything got off to a great start with no issues Although parents were able

    Non DoD Schools Contact Us Facebook Twitter Pinterest Flickr You Tube Search DoDEA Quick Links DoDEA Director Becoming a Teacher Current Vacancies DoDEA Curriculum Newsroom Press Releases Multimedia Media Advisories Publications Downloads DoDEA Celebrates Headlines DoDEA Quick Headlines Back to Previous Page All News Items Fort Campbell ready to begin new school year by Heather Clark Fort Campbell Courier Fort Campbell KY July 30 2015 With outside thermostats reading at high numbers and swimming pools still active throughout the day it might be hard to believe that the school aged residents of Fort Campbell are only days away from saying goodbye to another summer vacation But on Monday morning installation schools will be opening their doors to more than 4 000 students to begin a new academic year and the central and transportation offices want parents and students to know that they are more than ready We had a pretty big transition over the summer said Gary Gerstner assistant superintendent for Fort Campbell schools Many people know we ve closed Marshall Elementary and we re demolishing the old structure to make way for the new structure We expect to open the new school a year from this August With Marshall and Barkley Elementary set to open new buildings in a year s time there have been a number of changes in zoning and placement for several of Fort Campbell s students but they are changes that have been well met The resiliency of military Families is always amazing Gerstner said We ve changed a number of children s schools and zones and the parents are just great They just make it happen with their Families and we really have had a great understanding Part of that comes from the fact that we communicate with them As with the zone changes
