    Center more News Events Calendar Campus Updates ECU Journal News News Photo Galleries more Tools Applications Blackboard Login Faculty Staff Directory Faculty Staff Email myECU Portal Password Reset Student Email more Distance Education Blackboard Shell Requests Emergency Procedures Home ECU Emergency Numbers Acts of Aggression Accident Serious Injury Illness Administrative Contacts After Hours Asbestos Blood Borne Pathogens Bomb Threat Explosives Designated Persons Earthquake Procedures Emergency Notifications Fire Evacuation Suicide Intervention Tornado or High Wind Unwanted Intruder Emergency Procedures Suicide Intervention If an employee or student has reasons to believe either by direct knowledge or a report from another person that a person is in any danger of harming himself herself that employee or student is to report the situation immediately The procedure to report the situation is as follows If an individual has threatened or displayed a cluster of alarming warning signals appears to have a plan or is in imminent danger and requires intervention the Crisis Team will be contacted immediately The following procedures are to be followed A Do not leave the individual alone B Contact the Campus police 332 3875 or Ext 5316 C Counseling techniques will be used as appropriate to try to diffuse the situation D Counselors will collaborate about the results of a risk assessment to try to determine the severity of the situation E Do not allow the individual to go home unsupervised A parent or adult must assume direct responsibility for the individual before allowing him or her to leave school After the immediate crisis has been resolved the Crisis Assistance Team shall meet to evaluate the situation and decide on an appropriate role for the university to take in assisting the individual A A case manager shall be appointed to remain in close contact with the individual The counselor will be

    by radar Take shelter Weather reports should be monitored continuously Most tornadoes come from a south west direction NOTIFICATION Tornado watch and warnings will be monitored by a radio at the ECU Police Department and Human Resource Office Civil Defense siren will sound or Campus Police will notify Information from local TV Radio Stations will be confirmed by Campus Police Under a warning the Administration Building Library Wellness Center Fentem Hall Environmental Science Building and Kerr Activity Center will be advised When a Warning is given Everyone must follow all directions given by emergency personnel and proceed safely to the nearest shelter area Everyone on campus has a responsibility during a tornado emergency STEPS OF ACTION In the event the sirens should sound Faculty will inform their class of the shelter location and lead them there Once safely in shelter faculty member will take roll and note any unaccounted for students Faculty will close classroom doors and remain with their classes to be sure students are following the tornado evacuation procedures and verify student count Staff and employees will be led by supervisors to shelter locations In the shelter the supervisor or designated personnel will take a head count and note any unaccounted for personnel Visitors students with no scheduled class and employees not in assigned shelters will check into the nearest shelter location and report to any Emergency Operations Personnel who will make note of the visitor student or employee Dorms Building alarms will be sounded All housing personnel in the building must fall into duty whether scheduled or not and assist in evacuation Evacuation should begin on top floors of each building Notify each dorm and suite making sure each resident is aware of the situation Do not waste time trying to convince a non complying individual but

    History Mission Planned Giving Service Learning Vision Visitor Welcome Wellness Center more News Events Calendar Campus Updates ECU Journal News News Photo Galleries more Tools Applications Blackboard Login Faculty Staff Directory Faculty Staff Email myECU Portal Password Reset Student Email more Distance Education Blackboard Shell Requests Emergency Procedures Home ECU Emergency Numbers Acts of Aggression Accident Serious Injury Illness Administrative Contacts After Hours Asbestos Blood Borne Pathogens Bomb Threat Explosives Designated Persons Earthquake Procedures Emergency Notifications Fire Evacuation Suicide Intervention Tornado or High Wind Unwanted Intruder Emergency Procedures Unwanted Intruder T he goal is to maintain calm and order and not disrupt the classroom or office area any more than necessary Students will not be alerted unless necessary GENERAL PROCEDURES Faculty Staff should stop any stranger and inquire as to his her business in the building If not there on normal school business the Campus Police should be called immediately with a description of the individual If in a classroom call the Campus Police If shots are fired evacuate the students to the safest position away from the intruder and notify Campus Police immediately SIGNALS Call the East Central Police Department Ext 316 or 332 3875 and advise the intruder is in room Update with a new location if intruder moves STEPS OF ACTION Depending on the situation the Campus Police will take appropriate action 1 When Campus Police is called inform them if there is a weapon Try to give a description of the person by noting clothing gender race etc Take students into protected classrooms Check restrooms and vacant rooms Lock classroom doors with keys if possible Move students away from doors and glass LOCK DOWN PROCEDURES The following are guidelines to be used for emergency lock down A Persons Chairpersons Custodians with a door lock down responsibility

    my certification test scores Candidates should keep copies of their certification test scores for inclusion in their portfolio The only score that may need to be shared with the Director of Teacher Education Dr Osborne is the Oklahoma General Education Test OGET score The OGET passing score is one of the possible pathways to admission into Teacher Education A passing score on the OGET may be used by candidates who have less than a 3 0 gpa in their liberal arts courses Other possible criteria for admission into teacher education include a passing score on the Pre Professional Skills Test PPST and existing baccalaureate degree 4 Whom do I talk to if I have questions about certification All questions about certification issues should be directed to the Dean for the College of Education and psychology who also serves as the Director of Teacher Education and the Certification Officer Although the Chair for the Department of Education education program coordinators and education unit faculty may know the answers to many if not all questions candidates are encouraged to check with the Dean s office for the most recent information 5 Does ECU have to sign off on my certification application The Certification Officer at ECU must sign all license applications for candidates completing initial teacher certification programs offered at ECU Once an initial program has been completed and the teaching license issued candidates may add other initial program areas by passing the appropriate subject area test and then filing an application to add the areas directly with the Oklahoma State Department of Education ECU does not need to sign for candidates to add certification areas unless those areas require completion of an approved program Forms for adding certification areas may be secured from the Oklahoma State Department of Education web site Candidates completing advanced programs such as Library Media Specialist Reading Specialist School Administration School Counselor School Psychometrist and School Psychologist must also have their applications signed by the Certification Officer to document that they have completed an approved program Candidates must also have completed the appropriate subject matter test in order for the Oklahoma State Department of Education to add the area to their certificate 6 What does it mean that I have to be recommended for certification by ECU In order for a teacher education candidate to receive a teaching certificate in Oklahoma candidates must either complete an approved program of study from an institution of teacher education or receive approval through the Alternative Certification process When ECU s signs the application for an initial license or for adding an advanced area of certification the certification officer is verifying that the candidate has completed a program course of study that has been approved by the state of Oklahoma and or the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education Candidates must complete all additional requirements for certification before the state will issue the license or add to a certificate For example the certification officer may sign an application demonstrating a
