  • ECU - Initial Teaching License/ Certification Process
    fill out the application for the initial license Once the candidate s final grades and degree have been posted on the official transcript East Central University will approve the application on line and then send an official copy of the student transcript to the proper authority at the OSDE The student will then need to pay the fee for the license as directed Students are responsible for providing a final official transcript to the office of the Dean of Education Students may elect to turn in all application material to the Office of the Dean for the College of Education and Psychology who serves as the Certification Officer for ECU and who is the authorized signator recognized by the Oklahoma State Department of Education all applications for initial license must be approved by the Certification Officer State certification regulations require that candidates demonstrate competence at the high novice level in a foreign language ECU must verify the candidate s successful demonstration of foreign language competence before the application can be approved for the OSDE This requirement is noted in the ECU Catalog on degree check sheets and on the degree check forms The Oklahoma State Department of Education will affirm the following items prior to the issuance of the Teaching License Candidates must have passed all three state licensure tests all three state certification tests must be successfully completed NO EXCEPTIONS Candidates must have passed the Oklahoma General Education Test OGET the Oklahoma Subject Area Test OSAT for the area of their certification program and the Oklahoma Professional Teaching Exam OPTE before the OSDE will issue a Teaching License The satisfactory completion of all three tests is a state requirement not an ECU program requirement Candidates who turn in a hard copy of the application should attach copies of state

    Staff Email myECU Portal Password Reset Student Email more Distance Education Blackboard Shell Requests Education Home Early Childhood Elementary Education Special Education Admission to the Program Resources NCATE Teacher Ed FAQs Forms Education Links Undergrads Masters Graduates The Prime Model Visit Us Our Student Organizations Our Faculty Kaleidoscope Advanced Program Certification Issues Fall 2011 The certification officer at East Central University must sign and signify program completion in order for candidates to be allowed to add advanced program areas to an existing certificate The Oklahoma State Department of Education will not process the application until the appropriate signature indicating program completion has been secured Candidates seeking certification related to advanced programs School Counseling School Psychometrist or School Psychologist must hold a current Oklahoma Teaching Certificate or include documentation that they have applied for certification through the Alternative Certification process Those candidates seeking a certificate in school administration who have not completed a master s degree in school administration or its equivalent must also seek approval for an alternative certificate for school administration Candidates applying for any advanced certification program should include copies of any required state tests Often the university does not receive scores It is the candidate s responsibility

    Password Reset Student Email more Distance Education Blackboard Shell Requests Education Program Admission Criteria Admission Retention and Graduation Appeal Dismissal and Suspension Student Teaching Education Program Admission Criteria Students who are considering teacher education as a career must make application into the Teacher Education Program Applications for admission will be completed while enrolled in EDUC 2012 A student must meet the following criteria to be admitted to the Teacher Education Program Submit a completed Admission for Teacher Education Application form Have completed at least 36 hours of college work with a minimum of 20 hours in general education by the end of the semester must have completed at least 45 credit hours Attain a grade point average of 2 50 or better in all college course work attempted Must have a grade point average of at least 2 5 to enroll in EDUC 2012 Achieve a grade of C or above in ENG 1113 Freshman Composition I ENG 1213 Freshman Composition II and COMM 1113 Fundamentals of Speech Receive a favorable recommendation from an education faculty interview committee For Conditional Admission achieve a liberal arts and sciences college grade point average of 3 00 or higher in all liberal arts and sciences courses OR score at or above the level designated for math reading and writing on the Pre Professional Skills Test PPST An applicant may also qualify for conditional admission by possessing a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution in the United States Conditional Admission is valid for one semester after which the applicant must meet Unconditional Admission requirements NOTE While a student is conditionally admitted he or she may enroll for the following semester with the understanding that enrollment may be cancelled if unconditional admission requirements are not met by the beginning of the following semester For Unconditional
