    Pharmaceutical Sciences The Bachelor of Science in Pharmaceutical Sciences BSPS is a four year undergraduate program The pharmaceutical sciences combine a broad range of scientific disciplines that are critical to development and discovery of new drugs and therapies The degree is designed for students who intend to pursue careers in the pharmaceutical industry biotechnology industry biomedical industry pharmaceutical sales pharmacy and health care administration The degree is also well suited for students who wish to obtain advanced graduate or professional education to further expand their career opportunities in the pharmaceutical and healthcare arena Please note This four year program does not qualify graduates to take licensure examinations to become registered pharmacist Program Objectives To provide a quality undergraduate education for rewarding professional career opportunities and graduate programs in the pharmaceutical sciences To promote knowledge using basic laboratory skills experience in data gathering and analysis critical thinking and communication in oral and written formats Program Learning Outcomes Knowledge of pharmaceutical sciences Our graduates will demonstrate knowledge in all areas of pharmaceutical sciences Communication skill Graduates of pharmaceutical science will communicate effectively Critical thinking Our graduates will think critically Independent Research Our graduates will confidently conduct independent research Structure of the Program During the first two years of the BSPS program students complete a number of general science courses such as chemistry biology and physiology as well as general education courses required for graduation During their junior and senior years students complete major specific courses that will equip them with the necessary skills to be a valuable asset to the drug discovery and development process Sample courses in the pharmaceutical sciences major include Pharmacology Pharmaceutical Analysis Pharmaceutics Medicinal Chemistry Drug discovery design and development Drug Regulatory Affairs For a detailed curriculum click here A total of 128 semester hours are required for graduation from the BSPS program Student must successfully complete a minimum of 30 credit hours with a cumulative GPA of at least a 3 0 General Biology for Majors I and II and General Chemistry I and II should be completed during the first academic year Students enrolled in the BSPS must maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 2 8 Elective Courses Students in the BSPS program who are planning to apply to pharmacy school should schedule a meeting with the pre pharmacy academic advisor as soon as possible to discuss pharmacy prerequisite courses that may satisfy the BSPS elective requirement Sample courses that may fit this category include BIOL 207 BIOL 341 CHEM 401 and PHYS 182 All other students should work with their pharmaceutical sciences academic advisor to select appropriate elective courses based on the student s area s of interest and post graduation plans Why Study Pharmaceutical Sciences at ECSU Lectures Lectures are presented in both didactic and problem solving formats The BSPS program is housed in a state of the art facility with well designed instructional laboratories and web enhanced platforms for delivering lectures The smart classrooms available in Pharmacy Complex are modern and facilitate
