    of the new Ferrum College women s swim team which will compete in its inaugural season during the 2011 12 school year DeLaRosby comes to Ferrum from Trinity College in Hartford Connecticut where she served the past year as assistant swim coach for both the men s and women s programs Prior to joining the staff at Trinity DeLaRosby served as assistant swim coach at Springfield College in Massachusetts Women s swimming is a wonderful addition to Ferrum s intercollegiate sports said College President Jennifer Braaten We wanted to give our female student athletes more opportunities to compete and the swim program complements all that we already offer Lindsay DeLaRosby s experience as both an athlete and a coach make her an excellent addition to our staff Braaten said DeLaRosby set the school record in the 50 year freestyle for Saint Mary s University in Winona Minnesota during her senior year in 2005 In addition to her undergraduate degree DeLaRosby earned her M Ed in Physical Education Athletic Administration from Springfield College in 2010 DeLaRosby is also proficient in FrontRush recruiting software and plans to begin recruiting swimmers from the high school ranks immediately She also hopes a number of students already enrolled at Ferrum will want to compete for the Panthers DeLaRosby says she would like to have at least 20 swimmers by the time the season starts in late fall of 2011 At Ferrum DeLaRosby will have complete responsibility for all aspects of Ferrum s NCAA women s swimming program She will serve as coordinator of Ferrum s indoor swimming pool located in the lower level of Swartz Gymnasium Swimmers interested in competing for Ferrum College may apply online at http www ferrumpanthers com sb output aspx form 3 Information For Future Students Accepted Students Current Students President

    age 13 and over as well as students and other members of the campus community In addition to the 5K 3 1 mile option there will be a shorter one mile fun run as well The cost is 10 for Ferrum students The general public is encouraged to sign up early to save money Early Bird registrants will pay 20 if they sign up by March 13 The fee is 25 until March 25 and 30 on race day Participants may sign up from 7 45 a m 8 45 a m the day of the race All those who pre register will receive a t shirt Ferrum College title Rol Walters said that the race was an important project for the Rotaract Club Rotaract is the college arm of the local Rotary Club explained Walters The Rotary Club s motto is Service Above Self Ferrum s is Not Self But Others so clearly this is in keeping with the mission of both Walters said proceeds from the event will help Rotaract with future projects and a portion will be donated to United Way of Franklin County Walters thanked Member One Credit Union for sponsoring the event Those interested in

    Walters the Director of Career Services and collected over 15 years His collection features cars that are exact replicas from as early as 1921 There are 26 models accurately detailed to museum quality in 1 24 scale Among the cars is a 1948 Tucker one of the 51 that the Tucker Company was able to produce before it went bankrupt and a model of the 1961 100X Lincoln Presidential Limousine that President John F Kennedy was riding in when he was assassinated There are also examples of Roll Royces a Ferrari Testa Rossa the Bugatti Royale and a 1966 Shelby Cobra Super Snake Accompanying the exhibit is a display of books magazines and pamphlets detailing the model car collecting hobby and showcasing some of the most famous collectable cars available Also shown are rewards that Walters received while driving competitively in local Autocross events Autocross is best described as medium speed racing events that emphasize the handling of a motor vehicle The idea is to show how well you can control a vehicle says Walters Walters has participated in Autocross since his college days The first car that he bought and drove in competition was an MGB I which he bought in Scotland Walters was inspired to start collecting these cars because he could not afford to buy the real ones According to Walters his collection is eclectic Some people specialize in one type of cars such as trucks Fords compact cars Mine is a collection of vehicles from around the world and I try to collect anything that is special and stands out in the automotive field says Walters The exhibit will be available for viewing throughout the remainder of the spring semester and will be available during normal library hours This News Release was prepared by Public Relations

    poll and has held that spot the past three weeks This is Ferrum s first national ranking in men s basketball since February 25 1993 The Panthers at the time were 18 6 and tied with Emory Henry College for the 12 spot in the National Basketball Coaches Association Top 25 poll Coach Bill Pullen s squad was ranked 1 in the South Region at the time but fell from the regional and national rankings after suffering a 56 52 setback to N C Wesleyan in the semifinals of the Dixie Conference now the USA South Tournament Ferrum s two losses this season are to Eastern Mennonite University and Christopher Newport University Eastern Mennonite was ranked 10 at the time and currently holds the 16 spot CNU is the defending USA South Tournament champion and competed in last year s NCAA Division III Championship Tournament Tharp s team was picked to win the USA South in this year s preseason poll Senior forward Derek Mitchell has earned USA South Player of the Week honors three times this season Nov 29 Jan 10 and Jan 25 He became the first men s basketball player at Ferrum to post 1 000 career rebounds and 1 000 career points Mitchell is currently fourth on Ferrum s career scoring list with 1 467 career points He helped Ferrum win the 2010 Dick Leftwich V Foundation Classic at Roanoke College earlier this year earning Tournament MVP honors in the process Senior guard Keith Crump joined the 1 000 Point Club during Ferrum s 73 59 win at Covenant College Dec 30 Crump is the 14th player to reach the scoring milestone and currently holds the 8 spot with 1 160 career points The USA South has changed its postseason tournament venue policy for the 2010

    and participating in lectures and conversations with students He will also give a presentation at 11 15 in the Blue Ridge Mountain Room Students faculty staff and members of the community are invited to attend Ed Walker is a leader and a visionary said Ferrum College Vice President for Institutional Advancement Kim Blair who helped recruit walker for the highly successful Executive in Residence Program We are so pleased that he is willing to spend a day on campus so the Ferrum community can benefit from his knowledge and energy said Blair Walker s footprint can be clearly seen all over Roanoke Perhaps his most visible project to date is the renovation of the Patrick Henry Hotel Walker purchased the facility and is turning it into luxury apartments continuing a downtown living trend that has succeeded largely on the back of some of his earlier efforts Walker cut the ribbon on the Cotton Mill in 2009 It is the new anchor of western development in what has been considered a seedy section of the city for decades Now the 106 000 square foot building houses more than 100 trendy apartments in an area that also includes the Kirk Family YMCA the Jefferson Center and the Fork in the City Restaurant But he s not just a developer A former attorney and family man he also has a passion for the arts Along with his wife Katherine he founded the Downtown Music Lab an after school haven for teenagers who either love music or want to be career musicians After attending college at the University of North Carolina he travelled Europe as an art broker He is a regular at Roanoke nightspots that feature live music Walker is often involved with bringing the bands to Roanoke We want Ed to learn
