    problem solving help Other groups may develop research projects or begin scholarly writing groups All sessions are held in the Lucas Center LIB 212 Check the calendar for meeting dates of current FLCs All are welcome to attend Two New FLCs for Spring 2016 Applying Science of Learning in Education Infusing Psychological Science into the Curriculum Join us for a faculty learning community based on the book Applying the Science of Learning in Education This group will meet for one hour weekly to discuss evidence based strategies to improve student learning in the classroom Mondays from 12 1 PM January 25 February 1 8 15 22 29 Colloquium Colloquium FLC Open to all colloquium faculty Join us for an informal time of learning laughing and strengthening our Colloquium community The first gathering will include time to plan the rest of the semester according to needs and interests Thursdays from 5 6 30 PM January 21 February 18 March 17 April 21 Gen Ed Thread Facilitator Eric Otto This group will explore issues related to teaching courses in the General Education Program Participants will develop topics of common interest to facilitate development and improvement of teaching and learning in these classes Thursdays from 1 2 PM Feb 11th Motivating Students March 17th What is a General Education Course April 7th Teaching Large Classes S c holars hip of Teaching and Learning SoTL Text and Academic Authors Association TAA Facilitator Linda Serro and Laura Frost This group meets to discuss SoTL projects they are developing share resources to support their work and find ways to support scholarly writing TAA memberships are available to participating faculty and can provide a network of resources to textbook and academic authors Spring Continuation Wed Jan 20th and Wed Feb 17th from 3 4 PM POGIL Facilitator

    Early Mid Career Academy Established Career Academy SPoI Rationale Student Learning Focus Implementation Training Calendar of Events Resources FGCU Links New Faculty Academy Reflective Pedagogy in Higher Education Finding Joy and Success in Teaching College Department Academic Affairs Participants All new resident faculty hires at FGCU with less than two years of university teaching experience not including graduate assistantships teaching assistantships or adjunct teaching are required to enroll Other new faculty may enroll space permitting Faculty Load Successfully completing this course is an expectation of employment This coursewill be completed in lieu of service during the semester new faculty are enrolled in this course This course is for new and relatively new educators at FGCU It is built upon the belief that while no one can make one a better teacher new faculty members can be given the tools to develop their own teacher persona through reading discussing reflecting and practicing Along the way they have opportunities for feedback from the instructor other faculty members and their peers The goal is to equip our new colleagues with skills that will set them on the path of teaching effectiveness This course is divided into 6 units Designing a Course Teaching Strategies

    Learning Communities New Faculty Academy Mentor Coach Program Teaching Assistance Consultation Workshops Early Mid Career Academy Established Career Academy SPoI Rationale Student Learning Focus Implementation Training Calendar of Events Resources FGCU Links Mentor Coach Program What is a Mentor Coach A Mentor Coach is a resident faculty member at FGCU who has been here for at least three years or who is at the rank of Associate Professor or higher Faculty members who have successfully completed the Course Design Academy will be given preference as Mentor Coaches because of their work in best practice pedagogy Mentor Coaches have skills in many areas but do not profess to be a guru about all things but rather are a coach who can support early career faculty members and help a new faculty member find the resources either on campus or in the wider academic community to be a successful faculty member Although these mentors will be expected to primarily support the new faculty members with classroom pedagogy they may be called upon for advice and support in other areas A Mentor Coach may not be from the same discipline or department as the mentee however the mentor will help the mentee find
