    assisting and retaining students who are the first in their families to attend college who face financial difficulties or other challenges as they strive to continue their education or who are members of communities under represented at FGCU Our Eagle Edge program welcomes and guides promising students referred through partner organizations around Southwest Florida The Immokalee Foundation Guadalupe Center Nations Association Charities Take Stock in Children Quality Life Center Florida SouthWestern State College Eagle Transfer Scholarship Program Eagle Edge empowers these students with information about academic programs financial aid and other programs that can help them navigate the world of higher education complete their degree and succeed after graduation Through regular group meetings specialized workshops and one on one mentoring Eagle Edge participants learn essential techniques and strategies in areas such as these Productive study habits Efficient time management Critical thinking and decision making Effective communication Successful leadership Professional networking and business etiquette Life skills such as money management and cooking As its name implies Eagle Edge gives students the competitive advantage they need to succeed at FGCU and in life Please refer to your Eagle Edge contract for specific meeting times throughout the year Special events for extra attendance

    tests respectively The highest increase forty three percent was noticed at the 10th grade level for the SAT test and twenty seven percent at the 11th grade level Student Perspective Eighty four percent felt that the program improved their math skills Ninety four percent felt that the program improved their test taking strategies Eighty one percent of the students showed interest in STEM related fields for their future careers The students built solor energy miniature cars competed in groups on solor Go Karts and presented their final projects in a poster presentation format Four students received paid internships by the end of the camp Participants learned the importance of college planning in relation to career choices Participants were introduced to opportunities in STEM fields Students learned how to apply math in experiments and research to STEM projects Students were exposed to real life experiences and learned from world class experts All camp participants attended field trips to Algenol Covanta and NASA Camp Mission Our mission is to improve our students future outlook by increasing their exposure to opportunities in STEM careers and improving their math skills Camp Objectives Improve students skills in mathematics Expose students to real world math and its application in related career fields Increase the students awareness of STEM fields Expose students to processes that will increase their likelihood of being accepted into college Expose students to practicing professionals in STEM fields Create internship opportunities for camp participants Research Research shows that fewer students particularly miniority and low income students enter and persist in STEM Science Technology Engineering and Math programs in the United States than in other programs A major stumbling block has been low math scores To address this concern Florida Gulf Coast University FGCU in partnership with the Collier County National Association for the
