  • Colloquium
    Colloquium The University Colloquium is an interdisciplinary environmental education course designed to explore the concept of sustainability as it relates to a variety of considerations and forces in Southwest Florida In particular we will consider environmental social ethical historical scientific economic and political influences The course goals are to provide a sense of place and an understanding of the unique ecological features of the Southwest Florida environment to assist in achieving the Florida Gulf Coast University learning goal of developing an ecological perspective and in teaching the related outcomes that the student will know the issues related to economic social and ecological sustainability analyze and evaluate ecological issues locally and globally participate in collaborative projects requiring awareness and or analysis of ecological and environmental issues to provide experiences to assist in moving toward achieving the eight other FGCU learning goals and their related outcomes a list of the nine FGCU Student Learning Goals and Outcomes is attached to enable a working understanding of sustainability of environmental education and of ecological literacy Contact Information The University Colloquium is coordinated through the Colloquium Office The course focuses on assessing and improving student learning in the areas of ecological perspective and community awareness and involvement For general questions about the course please contact Interim University Colloquium Coordinator Brenda Thomas at 239 590 1497 or bthomas fgcu edu or Colloquium Office Manager Patty Krupp at 239 590 7488 pkrupp fgcu edu Concept Adopted At The January 15 1997 Dean s Council Meeting We have made a commitment as a university to make environmental education an integral part of our identity One of our university wide outcomes is that all students will develop an ecological perspective A way to accomplish this perspective is to devise a course or group of experiences with an environmental focus

    treynold fgcu edu Press Release FGCU Offers Compliance Specialist Graduate Certificate Course 5 30 2007 FORT MYERS FL The College of Professional Studies in collaboration with the Division of Continuing Education announces a new post baccalaureate course to become a Compliance Specialist Classes begin fall 2007 Compliance programs have become synonymous with responsible corporate governance The program trains participants in the process of compliance that compliance programs follow regardless of industry segment The Compliance Specialist works in the organization s compliance program to determine whether business operations act in accordance with laws and rules The program covers the theory process and practice of compliance issues The Compliance Specialist Graduate Certificate course is a one year intensive program Courses offered blend theory and practical guidance for a unique learning experience The program is a combination of distance learning and intensive weekend sessions two weekend sessions per course This enables students to be on campus to attend seminars and workshops with industry and regulatory experts so that theory and practice of compliance operations is integrated into the learning process The program requires completion of 15 credit hours of courses Required courses include Compliance Ethics and Controls Regulation of Business Conduct Interviewing and Investigation Forensic Financial Investigation and Regulation of Medical Industry The program is credentialed by the Society of Corporate Compliance and Ethics or SCCE and Healthcare Compliance Association or HCCA Upon completion of the program graduates qualify to sit for SCCE and HCCA exams to become Certified Compliance Specialists Guest lecturers include FGCU faculty from the Colleges of Professional Studies Business and Health Professions complemented by nationally recognized compliance and regulatory professionals Compliance is recognized as a growing career field nationwide Job opportunities exist in hospitals and most other health care organizations public and private corporations and not for profit organizations
