    some Helpful Hints for reading a degree audit The Legend at the top and bottom of the degree audit explains the symbols used in the audit Student View Header Contains current status information including Name Level Undergraduate UIN Degree Classification Level i e Freshman Sophomore etc College Catalog Year Major Minor and GPA s The Degree Progress Bar under the Student View Header block shows progress towards degree based on an estimation of the total average of courses required for a degree The Degree block is a summary and list of requirements needed to complete a degree Check Boxes in the blocks indicate whether a course is complete in progress or incomplete Green check boxes and green shading indicate a requirement is satisfied Blue check boxes and blue shading marked with a indicate a requirement is in the process of being satisfied Open check boxes with a red border and tan shading indicate a requirement has not been satisfied Free Electives Insufficient and In progress courses are listed in designated blocks at the bottom of the audit open What does it mean if classes are listed under the Free Electives Insufficient or In progress Blocks In progress or successfully completed courses that do not apply directly to a student s program of study are listed under the Free Electives block Courses that do not meet a grade requirement or are excluded from the program requirements are listed under the Insufficient block These courses may be applied to the GPA Courses currently enrolled in or registered for in a future semester are included in the In progress block open How are In progress courses used in the degree audit Courses students are currently taking or have registered for in a future semester are included in the degree audit These courses are also applied in the requirement block where they meet a specific requirement While in progress a grade of REG is assigned for currently registered and In Progress courses They are also grouped at the bottom of the degree audit in the In progress block open Why are some courses not applied to the degree requirements Courses listed in the Free Electives or Insufficient blocks do not meet any of the program requirements Credits and grades in the Free Electives block apply to the FGCU GPA and may count toward the total number of credits need to complete the degrees Grades may apply to the FGCU GPA in the Insufficient block however credits may not apply toward the total earned credits Students should meet with their advisor to clarify any questions about these blocks open Can students see a list of all classes completed Yes Click on the Class History link at the top of the degree audits for a list of courses taken at FGCU as well as transfer courses open What if students are pursuing two degrees a BS and a BA Only one degree appears on the audit Can students check the requirements for the other program of study Yes Look at the degree information next to the student s name at the top of the screen Notice that the degree box has a drop down arrow Use this to select the second degree The degree audit with the additional major will display open What if a student is a double major If a student is pursuing a second major within the same degree i e BA in Psychology and BA in Sociology both majors will appear in the Student View block and will display on the same degree audit NOTE The Common Prerequisites for the second major if required will appear at the bottom of the degree audit under the Upper Division block In addition please check that the Catalog Year listed in the Common Prerequisites blocks for each of the dual majors is correct and matches the Major Blocks These are defects in the Degree Works system and may be corrected in the future open What if the Degree Works audit shows a different program than the student s intended major Students should meet with their advisor to discuss this matter If a correction needs to be made a Change of Major will be initiated open What if a student s minor or concentration is missing from the degree audit If students have not officially declared a minor or concentration they will not appear on the degree audit Students should contact their advisor for information on how to declare a minor or concentration open Can students change a major minor concentration in Degree Works No Students should contact their advisor for information on how to change a major minor concentration open Does Degree Works include accelerated credit and transfer work for students Yes Once accelerated and transfer credits are received reviewed and articulated in the FGCU Admissions Office they are posted to the student s record and will appear on the degree audit open Is it okay for Degree Works to place a course in two different places Degree Works looks at a student s program holistically and places each course using a best fit scenario The best fit process will not always be perfect particularly when multiple possibilities exist Courses may apply to different sections as a student takes more courses If a course does not appear in a block that is expected students should contact their Advising Office to schedule an appointment with an advisor for assistance open What if there is an error within the degree audit Students should meet with their advisor to clarify the error and review the program requirements and completed coursework listed on the degree audit The advisor will make any necessary corrections open How do students know what courses to register for Students should review the degree audit worksheet look for areas that are not complete and meet with an advisor to develop a plan that meets their schedule and educational goals open Can students register for classes in Degree Works No Registration will continue to be accessed
