    SAT ACT and GPA requirements for admission All of the information regarding test score and GPA requirements can be found on the Admissions website However it is important to note that SAT ACT scores are reviewed under the individual subtests not just composite scores If any of the SAT ACT subtest scores fall below the requirement you will likely be required to complete remedial courses and this could affect the admission decision 4 What is remediation Remediation is determined if your test scores fall below the required score for one or more of the core areas i e reading English math and writing FGCU currently offers a Step Ahead option for math and English remediation However space is limited and students are only eligible if they fall into remediation in one of the areas Most remediation will need to take place at a community or state college Applicants in the special consideration process can be admitted with a remedial need but the remediation must still be completed 5 How can the remediation be completed Remediation can be met in a number of ways The student can re take the SAT ACT and focus on bringing up the scores in the necessary areas The student can take the PERT or ACCUPLACER college placement exams and if they score out of remediation FGCU will take this score over the SAT ACT score A final option is for the student to take the remedial courses in the respective area s either through the FGCU Step Ahead program or through a community or state college 6 How is my file processed under special consideration All of the required information including the disability documentation must be turned in to the Office of Admissions Once everything is received the file is reviewed by Adaptive Services and

    contact Adaptive Services for alternatives If you need to meet with a faculty staff member that has an office in a limited accessible area you should call them and arrange to meet in an alternate site Adaptive Services does not provide ongoing travel assistance FGCU s Student Government has shuttle services that provide transportation between the residence halls and main campus If you need assistance getting from class to class you may contact Adaptive Services for assistance If assistance is needed for more than three days you will need to ask friends peers classmates etc to help you get from class to class I n the event of an emergency situation such as wheelchair or scooter breakdown you may contact Adaptive Services or the campus police for assistance in getting to your classes There is limited transportation during summer sessions holidays and academic breaks If you will need assistance during these times contact Adaptive Services for availability and possible alternatives FGCU RESIDENCE HALLS ACCESSIBILITY FGCU Residence Halls offer rooms and facilities that are accessible to persons with disabilities A person with a disability may choose from a number of special options to provide the most convenient housing If you need special housing arrangements because of a disability you should discuss this need with your case manager who will be able to explain options and recommend the correct procedures to follow Students must still comply with all University Housing timelines All accessible rooms in the residence halls are equipped with flashing and audible emergency devices pull strings for emergency situations and elevators Other accommodations are available upon request Students requesting special housing conditions must request the accommodation on the Housing application and register with Adaptive Services PARKING All students and employees choosing to park on campus must purchase an FGCU parking

    textbooks in an alternate format supplied either by Recordings for the Blind and Dyslexic or staff employed at the Office of Adaptive Services Ability to Leave Class Periodically The student may need to leave class periodically due to the conditions of his or her disability The instructor is asked not to penalize the student unless the situation is inappropriate during an exam for example No Penalty for Absences The student may miss class periodically due to conditions of his or her disability The instructor is asked not to penalize the student for occasional absences and to allow the student to make up work Documentation explaining that absence s is are related to disability is required Interpreter Students may need a sign language interpreter The students are required to fill out an Interpreter Request Form that is available in the Office of Adaptive Services In order to accommodate the interpreter the instructor is asked to supply the interpreter ahead of time with a copy of any notes used during the lecture or handouts used during the class The professor is also asked to inform the interpreter of any audiovisual presentation so that Closed Captioning can be arranged Exam Accommodations Instructors are encouraged to provide testing and quiz accommodations for the students as much as possible However if an instructor is physically or logistically unable to provide the testing accommodations Adaptive Services can proctor exams and quizzes Students are required to provide Adaptive Services with a completed Test Schedule Form including the instructor s information and signature before he or she is able to test The forms are available as a hard copy in the Office of Adaptive Services and must be turned in within 4 business days of the testing date Note all test proctoring in Adaptive Services is on a first come first serve basis and due to scheduling needs students may be referred back to the instructors for providing the necessary exam accommodations Please read the Faculty Information regarding our testing policies and procedures on the link below Adaptive Services Testing Policies and Procedures Some common accommodations the student may need during an exam are as follows Extended Time Students who require extended time can take their exams in the Office of Adaptive Services if the instructor is unable to accommodate them in the classroom for the extended period of time Students are responsible for notifying the Office Staff of any upcoming exams and making an appointment to take the exam in advance The Testing Coordinator or other staff member of Adaptive Services then emails the instructor requesting a copy of the test For extended time the general time allotment is time and a half indicating that the student can have the entire class period plus half of the length of the class period to finish the exam Individual requirements and exceptions can be dealt with on a case by case basis Low Distraction Environment Students who request this accommodation need to test in a quiet room such as
