    Mathematics and Computer Science Department Three years later she was appointed as Associate Dean of Academic Affairs and Associate Provost where she served the institution for several years She returned to the Mathematics and Computer Science department where she presently holds the position of Chair Under her leadership the department has established the Mathematics Laboratory which serves the entire university with assistance up to and including calculus The department has created a new mathematics placement policy for incoming students which would alleviate the problems and cost inherent in the previous procedure Additionally the department has instituted an Applied Math track for students who are interested in an alternative focus The department has seen significant activity in research from both mathematics and computer science faculty Research Current Research Interests Applied Mathematics Biostatistics for Undergraduates Health Disparities Factors for Success in Mathematics Grants Dr Martin has participated in the Sites M Race To The Top projects as Assessment Coordinator for the past 5 years Both projects seek to improve mathematics performance in students while providing development for teachers Students are administered Math Challenges which reflect the Core Standards for their grade levels Teachers participate in activities through Weekend Workshops and Summer Math Institutes to increase their competencies confidence and creativity Dr Martin facilitates the Professional Learning Community meetings each month with Fisk faculty and partnering schools in Nashville Her monthly reports are submitted to the Educational Testing Service ETS along with others from principals and directors of the project as a measure of the effectiveness of these efforts required for future funding from the State Board of Education Cathy R Martin Ph D Chair Department of Mathematics and Computer Science Associate Professor of Mathematics Education BA in Mathematics Tuskegee University MS in Mathematics University of Michigan Ph D in Biostatistics University of
