    October 15 This permits students to focus their attention on their studies and adjust to their new environment Therefore the first time the Ovadia CP P Office meets with 1L students is at the mandatory Career Kick Off and Orientation in early November At that time the 1L students are introduced to the fundamentals of a legal job search and the services and support that the Ovadia CP P Office offers Career Advising Students are encouraged to meet with the Ovadia CP P Office advisers as frequently as possible Appointments may be made for career planning and job search advice résumé and cover letter preparation mock interviews tips on salary negotiation and more Recruitment Programs The Ovadia CP P Office hosts On Campus Interviews a recruitment program during the late summer and throughout the fall for 1L and 2L students During the spring semester a smaller recruitment program is hosted and open to all students Recruiting organizations include large medium and small law firms corporations public interest and government agencies Instead of interviewing on campus many employers choose to post job listings on Symplicity for part time positions as well as summer and post graduate employment opportunities Speakers and Career Information Programs The Ovadia CP P Office sponsors a large number of career skills and legal career information programs and invites attorneys from the private and public sector as well as nationally known speakers to provide career and job search advice to students Mentoring and Networking The Ovadia CP P Office works with the Alumni Relations Office and the Student Bar Association to present several networking opportunities to students throughout the year A variety of alumni functions and other FIU Law community activities offer a wide range of opportunities to network with practitioners judges and others and students are strongly

    credit hours within two years to obtain the LL M degree Curriculum The LL M curriculum requires three foundation courses United States Law I Methods Sources and Structure United States Law II Scholarship and Perspectives USL I II and Legal Skills and Values LL M which was designed exclusively for LL M students to teach legal analysis writing and research The remainder of the required 24 credits will be made up from the courses already offered at the College and selected by the student and the student s adviser with the individual interests and needs of the student in mind Therefore most of your course work will be done in classrooms with U S law students and you will become a part of the greater community of the College s students If you want an LL M that will qualify you to sit the New York bar exam additional requirements must be met including taking at least two courses in basic American law The New York bar regulations list 14 courses such as business relationships contracts evidence professional responsibility property remedies torts and wills as fulfilling this requirement If the student has no interest in sitting a bar exam in another state because for example he or she intends on returning to his or her home country after completing the LL M then the selection is wide open Because of the strengths of our faculty we may be able to highlight the possibilities that exist in International Law Human Rights Arbitration and Latin American and Caribbean Law Sample LL M sequence Fall Credits United States Law I required 2 Legal Skills and Values LL M 3 Professional Responsibility 3 Property Law 4 Spring Credits United States Law II required 2 Mergers and Acquisitions 3 Law of Corporate Finance 3 Business
