  • FIU Downtown on Brickell grows with student demand, new College of Business Administration programs. | BizNews
    College News May 24 2012 Downtown on Brickell is the place to be That s the word from an incoming wave of businesses restaurants and residents and now students at Florida International University FIU FIU s Downtown on Brickell programs proved so popular that after less than a year the university s space will double The added square footage will accommodate more students and graduate programs offered by the College of Business Administration The college has been expanding its space and offerings at 1101 Brickell Avenue FIU Downtown on Brickell A new leasing agreement adds 28 000 square feet at 1101 Brickell Ave Three floors including two multi purpose classrooms and a reception area will be added to FIU s existing 32 000 square feet of classrooms offices and dining space The expanded areas will open for use in the fall of 2012 Signage with FIU s name and logo will appear on the building high above Brickell Ave Students have quickly given a strong positive reaction to our Brickell location Executive Dean Joyce J Elam said As we continue our mission as a resource for the downtown community the added space will allow us to build our role as a focal point for professionals and executives Expanded facility brings new graduate business programs to Brickell The new space will house the college s redesigned Executive MBA EMBA program an immersive educational experience designed to meet the needs of experienced managers A new program the Master of Science in Health Information and Management Systems MSHIMS will also have its start at the Brickell center this fall Facilities include classrooms offices and dining space In September 2011 FIU opened FIU Downtown on Brickell built to FIU s specifications The building owned by Florida East Coast Realty was chosen after an exhaustive search to provide a suitably central location with facilities capable of serving FIU s rapidly expanding student population Other programs at the site are the Professional MBA PMBA Master of Science in Management Information Systems MSMIS Master of Science in International Real Estate MSIRE Master of Science in Finance MSF and the Healthcare MBA HCMBA FIU s Master of Public Administration and Master of Arts in Global Governance and the College of Arts Sciences Metropolitan Center also are housed at Brickell As we expand our footprint downtown FIU will continue its important role in Miami s ongoing economic renaissance said FIU President Mark B Rosenberg We look forward to educating the next generation of corporate leaders and entrepreneurs in our state of the art facilities Sharing Twitter 0 Facebook 27 Google 0 Linkedin 0 Email this article Print this article Authors Ellen Forman Tags EMBA Executive MBA FIU Downtown on Brickell HCMBA Healthcare MBA Joyce J Elam Master of Science in Finance Master of Science in International Real Estate Master of Science in Management Information Systems MSF MSIRE MSMIS PMBA Professional MBA Latest News Life s cravings and FIU real estate lessons fuel success for Joseph s Cookies Real estate

    Hollo School of Real Estate s 2015 Spring Developers Luncheon held April 10 at the Rusty Pelican on Key Biscayne In the 80s and 90s we were the gateway Now we re the meeting place Jimmy Morales Miami Beach city manager told the audience of 100 Hollo School of Real Estate students alumni and faculty Three Miami Beach officials joined Morales on the panel introduced by William Hardin Hollo School director and moderated and organized by Suzanne Hollander faculty member attorney real estate broker The Honorable Pedro Garcia Miami Dade Property Appraiser also spoke to the students joined by Lazaro Solis Deputy Property Appraiser Convention Center overhaul major upgrades new capabilities The Miami Beach Convention Center s 592 million renovation will be the most important project in the history of Miami Beach said Maria Hernandez project director for the Convention Center Built in 1957 and last renovated in the 1980s the center will undergo a complete overhaul Our goal is to connect the building to as much as the neighborhood as possible Hernandez said A plan for an adjacent 800 room business hotel will go before Miami Beach voters The three phase project is scheduled to be completed in 2017 with two Art Basel Miami Beach events to take place as renovations move throughout the facility Part of the city s economic development plan calls for increasing the employment base and supply of affordable housing FIU s Hollander is vice chair of the city s Affordable Housing Advisor Board It will be your job in the real estate industry to help build those spaces for potential clients said Planning Director Thomas Mooney an FIU alumnus With very little vacant land remaining the city is looking to work creatively with existing structures With sixteen percent of the population of Miami Beach living below the poverty line working in hotels and restaurants and many affordable housing options in North Beach the city invested in a revitalization program for the area We re starting to see developers watch what we re doing in North Beach he said They haven t pulled the trigger yet but they re watching Illustrating Miami Beach s unique real estate dynamic Economic Development Director Jeff Oris noted in the early 1980s South Pointe was the most dangerous part of the city and it s now the most expensive Height restrictions imposed in 1997 helped drive prices up Students learn from a first hand look at development challenges At the conclusion of the presentation officials answered students questions on public transportation jobs and the impact of the Convention Center investment Edward Lee a student in the online Masters of Science in Real Estate Program who lives in Panama made the trip to Miami for the event calling it a once in a lifetime opportunity to meet the people who are making the plans for Miami Beach Working with real estate in Panama he sees many models and lessons in Miami s history and development Alex Algarin a student in
