  • Professor Angus P. Wilkinson | Wilkinson Group
    Junior Research Fellow with Christ Church Oxford However most of this period was spent on leave working at postdoctoral scholar in the Materials Engineering Department University of California Santa Barbara In October 1993 he joined the faculty at the Georgia Institute of Technology as an assistant professor He was promoted to Associate Professor in 1999 and Full Professor in 2004 He has served as one of the School s Associate Chairs since 2006 He also holds a courtesy appointment in the School of Materials Science and Engineering Research interests His current research interests include 1 the design preparation and characteristics of negative and low thermal expansion materials 2 the hydration and performance of oil well cements under down hole conditions and 3 the development of synchrotron based methodologies and apparatus for in situ diffraction studies of materials Educational interests In the class room at Georgia Tech Prof Wilkinson regularly teaches courses in solid state chemistry and crystallography for graduate students and upper level undergradutes He also teaches part of the freshman chemistry sequence In addition to his teaching at Georgia Tech he has been involved in many workshops that explore how powder diffraction data can be used to learn about

    PHOTO GALLERY Experiments at CHESS the Cornell High Energy Synchrotron Source In the mid 2000s the group did a series of high pressure diffraction and x ray absorption measurements at the CHESS synchrotron which is located under the football field on the Cornell campus in Ithaca NY Many of these measurements beneffited from the expertise of William Bassett a well known expert on diamond anvil cells DACs and high pressure
