    Counselors Association C Child and Adolescent Services Research Center CASRC focuses on mental health care issues for vulnerable children including children in public service sectors In addition CASRC specializes in longitudinal studies of children at risk for development of mental disorders and other problems in psychosocial functioning and the effectiveness of early preventive interventions Child Welfare League of America CWLA is an association of almost 1 000 public and private nonprofit agencies that assist over 2 5 million abused and neglected children and their families each year with a wide range of services D D C Developmental Disabilities Council District of Columbia Rehabilitation Services Administration This DC government agency provides vocational and independent living services for DC residents with disabilities It also administers the Social Security Disability Determination Program which studies and settles claims for the Social Security Disability Insurance SSDI and Supplemental Security Income SSI The site has the contact information for these services and programs and a link to the Mayor s Committee on Person s with Disabilities The District of Columbia Department of Disability Services DDS DDS formerly known as The Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities Administration or MRDDA provides services life planning strategies and dedicated to maximizing the quality of life for people with developmental disabilities in the District of Columbia F Family Voices Information and support for families with children with special health care needs N National Alliance for the Mentally Ill NAMI Child and Adolescent Network National Association of Psychiatric Health Systems mission encompasses all organizations serving people with psychiatric and substance abuse disorders representing behavioral healthcare systems that are committed to the delivery of responsive accountable and clinically effective treatment and prevention programs for children adolescents and adults with mental and substance use disorders National Association of State Mental Health Program Directors NASMHPD

    interact with the Family Court Division including attorneys justices social service personnel education juvenile justice and health From the Beginning Building an Early Childhood Mental Health System of Care prepares leaders to collaborate in the development of an early childhood mental health system of care Based upon an early childhood system of care framework developed to help states communities and neighborhoods conceptualize organize and integrate services and supports to meet the mental health needs of young children and their families this course will highlight promising approaches used in these settings such as mental health consultation family mentors and evidence based practices How to Hire a Leader Hiring individuals who can serve in leadership positions in systems of care is a challenging task Most job descriptions do not typically outline the skills that are necessary to lead change efforts This half day course presents a set of leadership competencies employers should be looking for in hiring family and professional leaders in systems change efforts The competencies focus on skill sets related to vision and values risk taking shared decision making and leading change efforts Participants engaged in interactive activities to review elements of the leadership framework reflect on and identify their personal leadership strengths describe ways they have applied their personal leadership qualities skills and strategies in their work and conceptualize hiring practices that focus on leadership strengths Leadership Academy is designed for families and mental health professionals at all levels of community local state and federal government The Academy is designed to enhance awareness about the nature and practice of leadership and commitment to the leadership role learn new ways to define and understand leadership roles within systems of care and create effective strategies to sustain oneself as a leader and mobilize people to make a difference in the lives of children and families Mediating Together The Conflict Management Program at the GUCCHD has developed and implemented a curriculum to train neutrals to mediate in education child welfare and other child and family serving areas This course can provide participants an overview of mediation and and skill building for those who will be mediators Negotiating Together offers families professionals government leaders and advocates the opportunity to learn the process and skills necessary to engage in a collaborative or interest based negotiation Participants explore the theory of conflict and dispute resolution and the negotiation styles and the communication skills that lead to interest based decisions Policy Academy The Policy Academies on Developing Systems of Care Transforming Mental Health Care For Children and Families Through Planning Policy and Practice are a major national initiative to assist states federally recognized tribes and jurisdictions with the planning and implementation of public policies that ensure that children and families with complex needs access the services and supports necessary to be successful in their homes their schools and in their communities Delegations from selected states federally recognized tribes and jurisdictions receive support with conceptualizing planning and implementing their public policy initiatives that impact practices and outcomes

    together in interdisciplinary teams to meet the needs of families Developmental Pediatrics Genetics Neurology Nursing Occupational Therapy Physical Therapy Psychology Social Work Speech Language Interdisciplinary Services A variety of interdisciplinary services are available at the Center These services include the Autism and Communications Disorders Clinic the Developmental Evaluation Clinic the Developmental Screening Clinic the Hoya Clinic and Developmental Pediatric Evaluations and Genetic Counseling For further information or for appointments and scheduling contact the numbers listed below The Autism and Communications Disorders Clinic provides a comprehensive interdisciplinary diagnostic evaluation of infants and young children suspected of having Autism Spectrum Disorder and or a serious communication disorder The clinic conducts evaluations addressing children s communication social interaction sensory motor and cognitive strengths and needs Call 202 944 5400 to schedule an appointment More Information The Developmental Evaluation Clinic provides an interdisciplinary evaluation of babies up to two years of age who were born prematurly Children receive an interdisciplinary evaluation Areas addressed include cognitive motor and neurodevelopmental functioning More Information Developmental Screening Clinic is an outpatient service offered through the Children and Youth Ambulatory Service Department of Pediatrics to provide medical developmental services in the context of well child care and to insure

    leadership in cultural and linguistic competence and in addressing health and mental health disparities and inequities Through a variety of programs and projects the GUCCHD has provided the vision leadership knowledge training and technical assistance to increase the capacity of systems and programs serving a broad array of individuals and families to design implement and evaluate culturally and linguistically competent service delivery systems GUCCHD has led efforts to infuse cultural and linguistic competence into key human services systems and programs The focus of these efforts has included Health and mental health care delivery and Public health and health promotion Programs and projects address the needs of an array of special populations including but not limited to programs serving individuals with developmental and other disabilities and their families systems of care for children and youth with mental health needs and their families systems and programs serving children and youth with special health care needs and their families consumer and family advocacy organizations concerned with health and mental health care and programs for Sudden Unexpected Infant and Child Death and Other Pregnancy Loss In addition the GUCCHD supports the cultural and linguistic competence of the current and future human services workforce through
