  • Home - MIN5263 Marriage & Family Counseling - LibGuides at Global University Library
marriages and families in the congregation many Christian marriages will be saved and divorce will be rejected as the answer to marital problems This will serve as a powerful witness to the world and attract others to Christ and the church In this course you will study a brief counseling approach that church leaders can learn and use to effect rapid and enduring positive changes in marriage and family relationships The course is based on a developmental and systems view of marriage and family that gives full recognition to the biblical view of marriage and family as sacred covenant relationships and institutions that God designed for the benefit of His people The primary focus of this study is based on the assumption that most marriage and family problems develop when there is a loss of hope faith or love in the relationship and that the relationship can be restored by renewing hope faith and love I invite you to see your marriage counseling ministry as a part of the church s broader responsibilities of pastoral ministry It is a highly individualized ministry with a specific purpose To bring marriage partners within the local church closer to each other and closer to God Then as you develop your skills you may discover opportunities to provide marriage counseling to couples who are not in the church but who recognize they need help in their Marriage and Family Counseling relationship While marriage counseling is not primarily an evangelistic outreach it may provide many wonderful God given opportunities for you to share your faith in Christ and invite married couples to trust the Savior and become part of a caring and nurturing community of faith in the local church This course is not intended to raise your skill level to that of a professional

of the gospel to people from every nation underscoring both the universality of God s call to salvation and also the church s eschatological role as the people of God reaching out to all of lost and needy humanity The message is one of the salvation of the whole man in the atonement of Christ This includes ministry to both the physical and spiritual needs of all people The church s mission will continue until the second coming of Christ which marks the end of this present age in which evil dominates the world Theologically considered missions is not an addendum to the doctrine of the church It flows rather from the doctrine of God and reveals His eternal purpose for the salvation of lost humanity It is related to the doctrine of Scripture in that it constitutes the unifying theme of Scripture It is the reason for Christology in that Christ came to provide the atonement which makes missions possible It is central to the church s reason for being and is the motivation for its horizontal ministry in the world There is therefore no separate theology of missions distinct from that of the church The church reaches into the whole world according to the plan unfolded throughout the Scriptures This plan was specifically mandated by Christ prior to His ascension and it was purposed in the plan of God which was set before the foundation of the world This course The Biblical Theology of Missions is given to the study of that plan Course Requirements You are expected to complete the required reading assignments for each lesson including the biblical texts that are discussed in the textbooks and other readings You should also respond to the Questions for Reflection or Discussion before proceeding to the next lesson Although
