    view all Events view all Aviation Systems Technology Program Admission Criteria Aviation Systems Technology is a limited enrollment program beginning each fall Federal Aviation Regulations limit the number of applicants accepted into the program to 24 students per class All applicants must meed minimum requirements to be considered for admission to the program Please note however that meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee admission Minimum Admissions Requirements Placement Test Scores Compass Asset CPT Reading 81 Reading 41 Reading 80 Algebra 46 Elementary Algebra 41 Elementary Algebra 55 College English or Algebra with a grade of C or higher may be used to waive some tests if less than 10 years old Acceptable SAT ACT scores taken within the past 3 years may also waive some of the tests SAT ACT Reading 510 Reading 21 Math 520 Math 21 If the placement test score s is below the minimum required for acceptance an applicant must complete the appropriate developmental coursework as determined by an academic advisor All developmental coursework must be completed before an applicant will be considered for registration in AVI 110 APPLICATION PROCESS Complete a GTCC application Meet with an admissions advisor for an admissions interview Admissions Office hours are 8 00 am to 6 00 pm Monday through Thursday and 9 00 am to 4 30 pm on Fridays Complete GTCC Placement Testing if required by the Admissions Office Have an official high school transcript or GED scores mailed to the Admissions Office Official transcripts must be sent directly from the school to GTCC and have the school s seal or original signature Have official transcripts from all colleges or schools attended since high school sent to the Admissions Office These will be reviewed for possible transfer credit If you have a signed FAA 8610 2 or

    Yes GTCC s Aviation Systems Technology Program is the only community college in North Carolina certificated to award the Airframe or Powerplant or Airframe and Powerplant Rating Course work includes all the systems and subsystems related to the rating s as required by 14 CFR Part 147 GTCC s Aviation Systems Technology Program has been certified since 1984 When can I begin the A P program Students without prior aviation experience must start when the Fall term begins in August of each year with the General Aviation Maintenance AVI 110 curriculum If demand is sufficient AVI 110 classes may be added during the Spring term Students with an aviation background prior military or other documented experience working with aircraft should consult the Department Chair for aid in determining the appropriate starting point What does it cost to attend GTCC The total costs for the student is approximately 4200 5400 This breaks down as follows Tuition 7 000 6 terms Books 850 00 approximate Tools 650 2100 depends on brand Written FAA exams 450 00 Oral Practical Exams 500 00 TOTAL 5 340 00 Snap On Tools are 2100 00 All prices approximate The average cost of completing this 2 year program in 2010 is 11 000 This assumes a full class load and an median priced set of tools which are suitable for taking to a full time aviation industry job All tool prices are based on student vocational discounts of up to 55 off of retail Tuition fees are capped at 16 credit hours thus the cost of pursuing a degree or just the FAA ratings is the same if completed in the allotted two years Is financial aid available Yes the Aviation Systems Technology program does qualify for financial assistance However the money that a particular student receives depends on their own and or their family s resources Students wishing to learn more should contact the GTCC Financial Aid Office 336 334 4822 ext 31186 In 1998 new legislation took effect the Hope Scholarship which enables eligible students to claim tuition and allowable fee charges as a tax credit on their federal tax returns the limits on this tax credit are high enough to cover all tuition and all allowable fees for the two year curriculum Additionally eligible veterans may use the GI Bill to offset expenses as long as they meet all other requirements of the VA For more information contact the Office of Veterans Affairs 336 334 4822 ext 50521 Are all of the courses taught at the T H Davis GTCC Aviation Center located at the Piedmont Triad International Airport All aviation related courses are offered at the Aviation Center and we make every effort to offer the non aviation courses and electives for the degree program there as well However if demand is not sufficient at the Aviation Center for non aviation courses and the course is not offered on line then students may need to attend an occasional class at the main campus
