    Surgical Technology curriculum prepares individuals to assist in the care of the surgical patient in the operating room and to function as a member of the surgical team Students will apply theoretical knowledge to the care of patients undergoing surgery and develop skills necessary to prepare supplies equipment and instruments maintain aseptic conditions prepare patients for surgery and assist surgeons during operations Graduates of this program will be eligible to apply to take the national Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting Certification examination for Surgical Technologists Employment opportunities include labor delivery emergency departments inpatient outpatient surgery centers dialysis units facilities physicians offices and central supply processing units Program graduate certification rate is 92 and above The program offers diploma and associate level degrees for new students with no prior surgical experience and an Accelerated Alternate Delivery AAD program for graduates of unaccredited programs and on the job trained surgical technologists who seek certification Applicants interested in the diploma three semesters or degree five semesters options should contact Enrollment Services to begin the application process Applicants seeking the AAD one semester option should contact the Surgical Technology department chair to begin the application process Awards Associate in Applied Science Jamestown day Diploma Jamestown day Accelerated Alternative Delivery Diploma Jamestown online Program Outcomes The surgical technologist is a professional who provides and participates in the coordination of patient care as a member of the surgical team by demonstrating knowledge of aseptic technique surgical procedures and instrumentation Upon successful completion of the curriculum graduates should be able to Participate in surgical procedures Practice sterile supply room procedures Plan and prepare for surgical procedures Use equipment according to established policies and procedures Provide for patient and staff safety Use and care for instruments Practice aseptic technique Prepare medications Admissions Criteria Admission Criteria PDF

    BS CST Department Chair 334 4822 ext 50340 Tony Makin started his Surgical Technology career at the Naval School of Health Sciences in Portsmouth Virginia in 1984 He was stationed at Cherry Point Marine Corps Air Station Havelock NC from 1984 1988 Then he moved to Greensboro NC and started working at Wesley Long Community Hospital While there he scrubbed in all specialties helped in the development of the case cart system and became department inventory control coordinator Tony also was the Surgi Serve Program administrator In 1998 he started teaching at Guilford Technical Community College He was the lab instructor and taught basic surgical skills and then went to the clinical sites where he was site coordinator In June 2003 Tony became the department chair He currently lives in High Point NC and enjoy working in his yard and rose garden travel and reading science fiction Lorrie Capmbell Clinical Coordinator Instructor 334 4822 ext 50072 Lorrie Campbell Clinical Coordinator Instructor for the Surgical Technology Program at Guilford Technical Community College She graduated from the Surgical Technology Program at Guilford Technical Community College in July 1997 with a Diploma In 2000 she returned to Guilford Technical Community College where she completed her Associates in Applied Science Lorrie is a Certified Surgical Technologist Liaison Council on Certification for the Surgical Technologist Lorrie has worked at Moses Cone hospital since 1997 Her specialty is Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery She also scrubs in Orthopedics ENT and Ophthalmology She continues to work PRN at Moses Cone Health System Lorrie lives in High Point with her husband Christopher and their two children Caleb and Hannah Cynthia Lee Instructor Cynthia Lee CST started teaching Surgical Technology at Guilford Technical Community College in 2002 She also works part time on the open heart surgery team Cynthia is
