  • Chancellor of the University of Hawaii at Manoa
    2014 As the chief executive officer of the campus he is responsible for administration and management including providing leadership for academic units and facilitating success of the academic enterprise Before his appointment as chancellor Bley Vroman served as dean of the College of Languages Linguistics and Literature one of the larger units at the university and one of four colleges of arts and sciences He earned doctorate and master of arts degrees in linguistics and a MA in Germanics from the University of Washington His undergraduate degree in German is from Pomona College in Claremont California A faculty member at UH Mānoa since 1987 Bley Vroman is a former chair of the UH Mānoa Faculty Senate Executive Committee He was also chair of the Department of Second Language Studies director of the Second Language Teaching and Curriculum Center and founder and first director of the National Foreign Language Resource Center Before coming to UH Mānoa he taught in Romania at Universitatea din Cluj English and applied linguistics the University of Texas at Austin linguistics and at the University of Michigan where he was director of courses for the English Language Institute He also served as project manager at the interstate

    West O ahu on January 1 2016 She will oversee all aspects of the university including academic affairs administration and student affairs Most recently Ching served UH West O ahu as its interim vice chancellor for academic affairs in 2015 As the campus chief academic officer she was a champion of faculty and staff support and development student success academic quality and rigor She also served on UH West O ahu s Strategic Planning Committee in 2014 Ching is emeritus vice president for student affairs for the UH System She began her career as an assistant and associate professor of education at UH Mānoa and served in various executive roles at UH including associate dean of education assistant to the president of the UH System and vice president for student affairs for UH Mānoa and the UH System An advocate of success and equal rights for all students Ching developed numerous student programs at UH and was instrumental in the construction of the Queen Lili u okalani Center for Student Services at UH Mānoa Ching earned her bachelor and master degrees in secondary education from the University of Hawai i and her EdD with a focus in educational administration and supervision from Arizona State University She was the first woman of color and first Asian American Pacific Islander to be elected president of the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators and the NASPA Foundation She has served on national boards of directors and accreditation teams of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges and as consultant in the U S Asia and Pacific Islands Ching continues to mentor professionals in higher education of diverse ethnicities locally and across the nation She is recipient of numerous local and national awards that recognize her achievements in education as well as her extensive

    is the campus first female to hold the chief executive position She most recently served as the vice chancellor of academic affairs at Honolulu CC a position she held from 2007 2012 She also served in several positions at the School of Travel Industry Management at the University of Hawai i at Mānoa including assistant dean director of academic advising and director of internship and career development Before joining the University of Hawai i she served in several management roles at the Hilton Hawaiian Village As an administrator at Honolulu Community College Lacro is recognized for providing consistent stable leadership focused on creating a student centered culture In her previous work at the campus level she served as co chair of the Accreditation Self Study Steering Committee and chair of the Campus Leadership Team She led the campus reorganization process that has established a campus structure to support numerous paths to student success Lacro has provided leadership to guide the campus in several student success initiatives such as the creation of a retention office establishment of early alerts systems and developmental education policies focused on supporting student learning At the system level Lacro has led system academic affairs activities in the areas of the Achieving the Dream Initiative Complete College America the Reverse Transfer Initiative and was successful in working to gain funding through Educause to upgrade the STAR Academic Journey for the University of Hawai i System along with many other student success related initiatives Lacro currently serves as the principal investigator for a University of Hawai i Community Colleges consortium multi year 24 6 million grant from the U S Department of Labor s Trade Adjustment Assistance Community College and Career Training grants program to develop new training programs and support existing ones that lead to jobs in
