    Kunimoto Memorial Award for Outstanding Contributions to Vocational Education Kunimoto Award Winner Thomas Hussey 2006 Thomas Hussey is an associate professor of automotive technology at Maui Community College He is honored for building a successful program by creating community support As the program coordinator Hussey initiated outreach efforts to both private and public schools in Maui County to give students interested in the automotive field access to his program He also created effective relationships with community auto dealerships businesses and other automotive related companies to establish a network of support for the program To better prepare his students in their chosen field Hussey reworked his curriculum to meet the requirements for certification from the National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation He also serves on the advisory committee for Maui s Cooperative Education Program and for the Consumer Affairs of Automotive Complaints where he gives advice on automotive procedures for repairs and costs of repairs The Masaki and Momoe Kunimoto Memorial Award for Outstanding Contributions to Vocational Education rewards outstanding achievement and significant contribution to vocational and technical education by a community college faculty member or student The award was established by family members to honor the namesakes role in development of

    Renee Bell is a second year student in the food services program at Hawai i Community College While physically challenged Bell maintains a strong positive attitude and is determined to succeed in whatever her goals may be including running her own restaurant Bell willingly puts in the extra effort to achieve both inside and outside the classroom and is well liked by her peers and instructors As a prime example of her selfless compassion and desire to help others Bell offers her services as a note taker to a fellow student who is hearing impaired and took a sign language class in the evenings to learn how to better communicate with her classmate Bell has two adult children one of whom is a fellow classmate attending Hawai i CC and is also pursuing a degree in food services One of Bell s professors predicts She is a hard worker and conscientious student and with continued education and job experience will become a success in her chosen field The Masaki and Momoe Kunimoto Memorial Award for Outstanding Contributions to Vocational Education rewards outstanding achievement and significant contribution to vocational and technical education by a community college faculty member or student The

    808 956 8111 Masaki and Momoe Kunimoto Memorial Award for Outstanding Contributions to Vocational Education Kunimoto Award Winner Mary Goya 2002 Mary E Goya is an assistant professor in early childhood education at Hawai i Community College Since first recognizing the need for the program more than two decades ago she has initiated expanded and maintained a high quality program The program begun in fall 1987 flourished in large part due to her leadership and guidance It is the campus largest vocational program with more than 125 majors island wide and Goya is expanding its reach through the use of new technologies Goya has implemented many program modifications and additions to help keep the program current with National Association for the Education of Young Children guidelines A children s center was added in 1990 to serve as the main laboratory for the college students as well as providing early care and education for the children of Hawai i CC and UH Hilo students staff and faculty Goya creates two way involvement with the community She recruited lecturers to serve on screening committees for faculty selection She serves on the Hawai i Career Development Coalition and the TEACH Teacher Education and Compensation Helps committee and is vice president and conference coordinator for the Big Island Chapter of the Hawai i Association for the Education of Young Children She advised the Hilo High School Advisory Board on its childcare program and has presented many workshops for various groups The Masaki and Momoe Kunimoto Memorial Award for Outstanding Contributions to Vocational Education rewards outstanding achievement and significant contribution to vocational and technical education by a community college faculty member or student The award was established by family members to honor the namesakes role in development of the food industry in Hawai i Select

    gather before logging into the online UH System Common Scholarship application Your UH Username is your electronic key to gaining access to the University of Hawaii online services i e email UH Portal registration etc top Do I need to have a UH Username to apply for a UH System scholarship It is highly recommended that you have a UH Username because it is required to be admitted to a UH campus to apply for the UH System scholarships top Is there a time limit for the online scholarship application As a security feature on Scholarship Manager there is a time out process You have 45 minutes to complete each page of the application Each time you navigate to another page of the application your information is saved and the clock is reset top May I make changes to my online application once it is submitted No Once your online application is submitted you will NOT be allowed to make changes or corrections top Can I save my application and return to it at a later time Yes Before logging off make sure you click Save and Continue Every time you select Save and Continue your application information is saved It is only after you submit your application that you will be unable to make changes to your application top How can I check to see if my letters of recommendation have been submitted To view the status of your letters of recommendation you will need to log into your scholarship account Click Review Current Status Then view Review Answers to check the status of recommenders top When will I be notified if I was selected for a scholarship If you have been selected as a scholarship recipient you will be notified between April through June top Who selects the scholarships There are committees set up for the different funds that will evaluate each eligible application top Can I receive scholarships from more than one fund Yes you may receive more than one scholarship if you are eligible top How will I receive the scholarship funds For U S citizens and permanent residents the scholarship funds are sent directly to your campus to be applied to any unpaid institutional charges Any excess funds will be sent to you via the UH refund process either by check or direct deposit For international students the UH Foundation will pay scholarships to the student directly International students must provide additional foreign national information to UH Foundation in order to process your scholarship top If I am awarded a UH System Scholarship will it affect my financial aid You must check with your home campus financial aid office Most scholarships are considered as a student financial resource available to pay for educational costs If your financial aid awards currently meet your full financial need government regulations specify that any scholarships you receive may lower your financial need dollar for dollar and the financial aid office may need to reduce your other financial aid awards
