    thorough knowledge of the subject s background infused with an awareness of the most current information available Following the Library s information path students see more clearly the relevance of world events to their classroom instruction and to the knowledge contained in the Library The primary mission of the Hawaii Tokai International College Learning Center is to support the educational aims of the College Priority is given to the curricular needs of HTIC students and faculty and to the academic research needs of faculty administrators and staff The Learning Center includes both the library and two computer labs The Library has over 7 000 books 500 videos DVDs maps CDs newspapers and journals that can be searched through the LibraryWorld online catalog The Learning Center contains the library s electronic and multi media collection and associated equipment The Library and computer lab have a total of 39 multi media computers available to meet the educational and research needs of faculty staff and students Librarians provide students with personalized reference services and assistance in the use of available library materials to assist them in their educational pursuits Through an agreement with the University of Hawai i s Library full time faculty

    of any problems that might occur in the library ranging from damage to the library and its contents or theft of items The fine for a lost or unreturned keycard is 25 00 Public Access Workstations and Library Equipment Patrons are asked to limit use of the computers and other equipment in the library to 30 minutes in case others are waiting to use them If no one is waiting extend the time accordingly Alumni In recognition of their contributions to the overall quality of life and intellectual sharing that they do while on campus alumni with alumni ID cards have the same rights and privileges to use the Library during its operational hours They are also responsible for following the same rules and regulations 24 hour access privileges do not extend to the alumni Visiting alumni will check in at the security desk for an alumni badge to use during their stay at HTIC Reserve Policy Faculty and instructors may place journal article reprints personal copies and library materials books except Reference and videos on Reserve for one term Test and Quizzes are not acceptable for the Reserve Collection Faculty is advised to make copies of the test quiz for their students All personal copies submitted for reserve will be placed in the Reserve Section Although staff takes all reasonable precaution personal materials on reserve are at some risk Do not place valuable or irreplaceable items on reserve Disclaimer HTIC Library will not be responsible for any damaged missing and or lost personal copy while on reserve Faculty personnel should claim their personal copies at the end of each term Library materials or current textbooks and faculty materials will be placed in the Reserve Section locked glass case These items must be requested at the Circulation Desk when a Library staff member is on duty Fines Borrowed reserve materials must be returned by the date and time on the date due slip or fines will be assessed There is no grade period Items should be handed to the Library Staff at the circulation counter when the library is open during the hours of circulation from 11 00 a m M Fri and 5 00 p m on Sundays Reserve fines are as follows even when the library is closed 2 00 fine for the first hour or faction thereof 0 50 for each additional hour or fraction thereof If the item is not returned or is considered lost 20 00 in overdue fines and the replacement cost of the item will be billed to the borrower Library Behavior Policy Since the library is accessible to students 24 7 library users are responsible for maintaining an appropriate atmosphere for study Students are expected to respect library furnishings and resources The library requests that users turn off cell phones and pagers in the library do not bring food or drink in the library with the exception of water in resealable bottles speak quietly and keep conversations to a minimum remove all

    action by College officials including but not limited to the cancellation of those privileges HTIC provides access to both its computers and its network for students faculty and staff All persons who access these computers and or the network shall thereby agree to the following policy All users are expected to use HTIC computers and or the computer network appropriately honestly and constructively The Acceptable Use Policy AUP is meant to support and protect College students and personnel in the use of this valuable educational resource The following actions constitute irresponsible and or unacceptable use of HTIC computers and or the computer network Sending or receiving copyrighted materials without permission Using impolite abusive or otherwise objectionable language in public messages Placing unlawful information on College computers Using College computers in ways that violate local state federal or international laws or statues Excessive use of College computers for non school related activities Sending messages that are likely to result in the loss of the recipient s work or systems Sending chain letters and or pyramid schemes to lists or individuals Any use that would cause congestion on College computers or otherwise interfere with the work of others Using College computers or its network for commercial purposes Changing any computer file that does not belong to the user Giving one s password to others or allowing someone else to use one s password Using another s password without proper authorization Using College computers to send or retrieve pornographic material inappropriate texts or graphic files Circumventing security measures on College or remote computers or networks Attempting to gain access to another s resources programs or data without proper authorization Vandalizing which is any malicious attempt to harm or destroy data of another computer user Excessive bandwidth usage as in monopolizing bandwidth by running
