    during this Las Vegas trip The Polynesian Club would like to thank the HTIC community for all its support especially with our fundraisers Tammy Silva for the opportunity to dance w Halau Ke ala O Ka Iliahi the Las Vegas Halau for the warm welcome and sharing the stage with us and the Honolulu Halau for great memories of life as a Hula dancer HTIC Updates HTIC Offers Dance Judo Painting and Desktop Publishing Courses 2011 10 14 18 07 41 Each term HTIC provides students the opportunity to take a variety of one credit enrichment courses that allow them to learn new skills develop their artistic talent or engage in physical activities This term a record number of students are taking advantage of some of these courses Students are learning judo under the instruction of experienced local judo instructor Jon Lum sensei dance from Jasmine Yep an experienced dance instructor who is also a graduate student in the Department of Theatre and Dance at UH Manoa and painting techniques from local artist Wayne Takazono in his Introduction to Painting course Finally HTIC s computer instructor Alan Lunt is teaching a full class of thirteen students in his popular Desktop Publishing course Individual classes at HTIC remain small to allow for lots of individual attention in these intensive ten week workshop style courses HTIC Updates Peace Studies Certificate Program at HTIC 2011 10 12 16 54 27 HTIC s Peace Studies Certificate Program is a great option for students wanting to develop a greater understanding of peace It offers students the opportunity to examine the causes of violence and explore the conditions for sustainable peace by taking 12 credits of Peace Study classes and then writing an in depth research paper on a peace theme The classes offered include ENG 259 Literature of Peace SCI 210 Environmental Issues JOURN 105 The Press and Society AMST 212 Global Issues and POLSCI 273 Nonviolent Political Solutions In these classes students discuss such topics as the issues of respect for human rights human security cross cultural communication and sustainable resource development Students may pursue the Peace Studies Certificate at the same time they fulfill their requirements towards an A A degree in the Liberal Arts Be the change you want to see in the world and expand your worldview through this remarkable HTIC program HTIC Updates Submissions closed for 23rd Annual Shizuoka Friendship Postcard Art Contest 2011 10 11 17 16 53 Thank you to all the talented artists who sent in entries for the 23rd Annual Shizuoka Friendship Postcard Art Contest We received many amazing and creative submissions this year and have sent them on to Japan for judging We will be holding a local awards ceremony once the winners are announced so please stay tuned for the results HTIC Updates 4th Annual International Day of Non Violence 2011 10 4 16 38 24 On October 3 2011 Hawaii Tokai International College participated in the fourth annual International Day of Non Violence

    of the activities of Peace Day on September 21 the contest was statewide and open to the public Shu s essay was chosen as most outstanding from among those submitted by non native English speakers from across the State of Hawai i Due to prior travel plans for the weekend Shu was unable to attend the awards ceremony at the State Capitol but his English 100 teacher Ms Teuta Rizaj attended the event read his essay to the gathering and accepted the award on his behalf Included among the prizes awarded Shu were certificates from both the State Senate and the State House of Representatives Because Shu was unable to attend the September 21 ceremony he his English 100 classmates and Ms Rizaj have been invited back to the Hawai i State Capitol September 21 was established by a United Nations resolution in 1981 as the International Day of Peace This is the first year that the State of Hawai i has joined this global event with its own Peace Day Hawai i celebration Go Page Top User Menu Home About HTIC Kapolei Campus Academic Calendar Academic Programs Admissions Transfer to 4 Year Colleges Learning Center Student Life Download Center

    All students also received Hawaii Tokai s traditional Kukui Pendant which symbolizes the enlightenment that comes with learning In addition two College Prep students were recognized for high achievement on their TOEFL scores Both Akiko Fukuwa and Ryoji Okada became members of HTIC s 500 Club for scoring higher than 500 on their summer TOEFL tests The College also extended a warm aloha to all new HTIC students both those admitted to the College Prep Program and those admitted to the Liberal Arts College In the case of the latter HTIC was pleased to welcome a diverse freshman class comprised of U S Taiwanese and Japanese students New adjunct faculty were introduced to the HTIC Learning Community New Liberal Arts adjunct faculty members for the Fall 2007 Term are Naiad Wong World History Wayne Takazono Art and Yukiko Yamaguchi Japanese Language Joining the College Preparatory Program as adjunct instructors are Jan Marcec Minori Murata and Daniel Silver Finally special recognition was given to Shu Hikichi who won first place for the best essay by a non native English speaker on the topic of peace in an Expressions of Peace contest promoting The State of Hawaii s inaugural Peace Day Shu

    The ten students who volunteered at the Farewell Dinner were Ayako Sato Yurina Nakamura Moeka Dobashi Kosuke Muramoto Masato Ariga Yuko Watanabe Emi Iwai Mana Shiokawa Ryohei Suzuki and Shun Suzuki HTIC Updates Student Talent Show Held July 22 24 2008 7 29 13 58 15 Hawaii Tokai International College held its first Bi Annual Student Talent Show in the College Cafeteria during the fourth week of the Summer Term on July 22 23 and 24 Emceed by Class President Hirofumi Takasaki July 22 23 and College Prep Coordinator Nicholas Delzotto July 24 the three day event featured performances by College Preparatory students College Liberal Arts A A degree program students and some HTIC staff Judges were impressed by the vast range of talent that was showcased in the show Three performers demonstrated musical talent by playing different selections on the French horn violin and trumpet These acts were joined by three other musical entries two of which teams of two students apiece performed different original versions of music by the group Green Day and the third an act that featured song and dance In addition to these musical acts other participants performed dance stand up comedy magic animal balloon making acrobatic cheerleading moves and skateboarding this last event was held outdoors In the end the judges gave awards to these top acts 1st Place Mana Shiokawa Moe Saito Acrobatic Cheerleading Routine 2nd place Ayaka Soya Otono Naniwa Singing Dance Performance 3rd place Takuma Hirako Yuki Hirohata Magic Act Here are all the acts that performed each day Tuesday July 22 Emcee Hirofumi Takasaki Kenshi Ichinomori Violin Titanic theme My Heart Will Go On David Oshima Japanese Stand up Comedy Kota Hobara Hip Hop Dancing Routine Takuma Hirako Yuki Hirohata Magic Act Wednesday July 23 Emcee Hirofumi Takasaki Kosuke Hashida Trumpet Disney s When you Wish Upon a Star Yuki Tamura Balloon Animals Mayumi Yoshida French Horn Titanic Theme Narumi Sugimura Dancing Routine Thursday July 24 Emcee Nicholas Delzotto Yukihiro Bando Hirofumi Takasaki Singing Guitar Green Day Time of Your Life Yuya Nakagami Kousuke Muramoto Singing Piano Green Day Ayaka Soya Otono Naniwa Singing Dance Routine Mana Shiokawa Moe Saito Acrobatic Cheerleading Kento Takahashi SkateboardingJumps Special Dance Comedy Performance by Student Government Officers Akiko Yuki Sherwood and Andrew HTIC s next Talent Show is scheduled for the Winter Term January March 2009 Interested participants please contact Student Support Specialist Andrew Fujimoto for more information HTIC Updates Spring 2008 Commencement Ceremony Held June 14 2008 6 19 15 11 20 The College held its Spring 2008 Commencement Ceremony for Associate in Arts degree graduates on Saturday June 14 at 4 00 pm in the HTIC Auditorium The Commencement Address was delivered by Dr Dan Boylan Professor of History at the University of Hawaii West Oahu and a well known commentator on local and national politics Also highlighting the afternoon s ceremonies were speeches by two graduating students who were selected as class representatives Ms Kyung Hee Kelly Kim and Mr Yuki
