  • Heritage Christian University - Events - Graduate Research Lectures
    from the Churches of Christ for a series of lectures to the graduate students and faculty of Heritage Christian University The student selected for these lectures will be pursuing the PhD ThD DMin or other equivalent degree and he or she will be writing the dissertation or will have recently completed it The student s major field of research will usually be Biblical Studies Theology or Ministry though students in other disciplines that are relevant to the graduate program at HCU e g Classics History will receive consideration The lectures include 1 an overview of the current status of the student s primary field of interest 2 a more specific investigation into how the student s dissertation advances this field and 3 an informal academic biography It is also requested of the selected lecturer to compile a bibliography of essential resources within his or her field Doug Burleson serves as an Assistant Professor in Bible at Freed Hardeman University in Henderson TN and preaches at the Scotts Hill Church of Christ in Scotts Hill TN He plans to graduate in May 2012 with a PhD in the area of New Testament Textual Criticism from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary His

    slogan it is a fundamental component of the University s mission to prepare effective communicators of the gospel The Christian Service Department provides practical field experience for our students including regular weekly service to the church and community as well as targeted evangelistic activities each semester in various locations During the week of October 16 22 our students will serve the communities of Fairfield Texas and Florence Alabama Jason Schick HCU alumnus and the preaching minister with the Fairfield Church of Christ has designed an organized and professional experience by which our students can grow spiritually as they share the gospel with others HCU s Director of University Advancement Philip Goad has been invited to present a series of lessons focused on the grace and mercy offered by the Lord to all In coordination with the gospel meeting our students will meet with local residents setting up and leading personal Bible studies Recognizing Jesus command to go and do likewise in response to the needs of others Thursday will be dedicated to various service projects throughout Fairfield Brandon Beard one of our most experienced student campaigners will provide exceptional leadership for the students during this campaign The Florence campaign will

    Lewis Biblical Research Lectures affords the opportunity for the graduate program at Heritage Christian University to host a distinguished scholar who has dedicated his or her life to training ministers in the context of theological schools affiliated with the Churches of Christ The lectures are named in honor of Jack P Lewis an internationally recognized scholar and a pioneer in critical biblical education within Churches of Christ who taught for many decades at the Harding University Graduate School of Religion in Memphis where he provided an example of Christian scholarship to the thousands of ministers who came there to study under him These annual lectures established in his honor aim to expose the faculty and graduate students to the variety of fields within Theological Education and connect HCU to her sister institutions around the country The lectures typically feature 1 an overview of the current status of the scholar s primary field of research 2 a more specific lecture in which the scholar highlights his or her own particular research within that field and 3 an informal academic biography Dr Jack P Lewis is Professor Emeritus at the Harding School of Theology formerly Harding University Graduate School of Religion in

  • Heritage Christian University - Events - TITUS Camp
    you can serve We want you to use your talents immediately This camp is not like a regular church camp in that you will have many classes to attend Some of those classes will be practical and others more focused on ministries that interest you Classes will range from song leading to spiritual maturity HOW MUCH DOES IT COST We only require a 25 non refundable application fee as a deposit for all campers This fee must be sent with your application for your spot to be reserved The average cost per camper is around 150 to 175 per camper However the staff counselors and directors have taken it upon themselves to raise the support Some students are sponsored by their home congregations and donations are sent ahead to HCU for each student WHAT CLASSES WILL I BE ATTENDING All students will be attending Bible classes and training classes They will receive training in Homiletics library research lesson preparation personal evangelism song leading spiritual maturity spiritual leadership counseling and youth ministry Two favorites are Manna in the Morning which is a devotional to get you started each morning and Give A Defense which is a challenging class to test your Bible knowledge WHAT SHOULD I BRING We encourage all campers to bring a Bible pillow air mattress sheets or sleeping bag and dress clothes The young men are required to wear a tie in all classes and when preaching The young women are required to wear dresses in all classes and when teaching Each evening and during our activities we will allow the young people to wear casual clothes knee length shorts jeans collared shirts etc We also expect each young person to bring a good attitude We will be taking a few trips off campus for various activities Huntsville Stars game Summer Youth Series etc therefore you may want to bring spending cash for mementos HOW CAN I RESERVE MY PLACE If you are interested in being a part of TITUS camp this year then you need to fill out an application and mail it in before the deadline March 1 along with your 25 application fee We regret to announce that we will only be able to take the first 40 male and 30 female applicants into camp So make sure to reserve your spot at camp as quickly as possible because you don t want to miss it The applications will be taken on a first come first serve basis HOW CAN I BECOME A COUNSELOR OR TEACHER If you are interested in being a part of the TITUS camp staff you need to fill out a counselor application We will review those applications at our annual staff meeting in March and get back with you by April 1 We may also need teachers for the camp so if you are interested in teaching a Bible class chapel service or devotional please send us a message HOW CAN I HELP T I T U S CAMP 1
