    double check your password and log in name with your email If they work in email but not in Moodle or don t work in email either contact Gary Oyer garyo hesston edu to reset your password How to Find your Courses If you are enrolled in any courses already they should appear in the My Courses box on the left side of the Moodle main page when you log in If you aren t enrolled and should be you can talk to your instructor Not all classes use Moodle How to Find your Calendar If your classes are using Moodle and have put up assignments or other events you can see them on the calendar on your main page You can also add your own events to that calendar See other document on main Moodle page for more information on the calendar Your Profile Your profile is your identity on Moodle All Hesston Moodle users can see it including your instructors Your profile also contains email information To edit your profile To view your profile click on your name next to the Logout link at the top of the screen or anywhere else that your name appears as a link Then click the Edit profile tab You can change your user icon photo by browsing for a picture next to the New Picture field Please keep the picture small about 100 100 pixels and 500kb or less in size Please use either GIF or JPG format Again remember that this profile is accessible to all members of the Hesston College community and your teachers will see this icon The same caution is applicable to your description Email from inside Moodle or the Messaging Function In Moodle many faculty will have added a QuickMail block which is a basic email program to allow you to email your classmates or any of the faculty You can also send an email message with Moodle s the Messaging option from participants list To see a short video on how to do that click here Forums If your instructor has put a forum in your course the link on the main page will look like this Forum name goes here To post a new thread in a forum click the link then click the Add a new discussion topic button at the top of the list of threads Give the thread a title in the Subject heading and type your post in the Message section When you are done check your post for errors and click the Post to forum button at the bottom Be sure to change the Subscription setting to how you want it if you want to receive emails of every post to the forum set it to Send me email copies of posts to this forum If not set it to I don t want email copies of posts to this forum Some teachers may have set their forums to force you to be subscribed or to not allow you

    participate in Community Involvement Week during one week in September The students serve with local organizations such as Schowalter Villa PET Kansas Youthville Ethiopia Reads Harvey County Homeless Shelter the local public schools Agape Resource Center Et Cetera Shop Mennonite Central Committee MCC Center Dyck Arboretum Lions Club and the American Red Cross There are opportunities for students to continue to serve with these organizations throughout the school year Some students serve with organizations on an ongoing basis throughout the school year One of these service opportunities is through the Offender Victim Ministries Match 2 program where students meet with inmates from the Hutchinson Correctional Facility on a monthly basis Another ongoing service opportunity is through the local Big Brothers Big Sisters program All students participate in a service activity during Larkfest a day in April highlighting service and education Mod activities throughout the year include doing service projects together Athletic teams also participate in service projects together Students in the Disaster Management Program serve with Mennonite Disaster Service MDS throughout the school year on local disaster sites and for eight weeks during the summer on an active MDS project site Service Learning Courses Service learning at Hesston College is a course based educational experience in which students participate in an organized service activity that meets identified community needs as well as course objectives Reflections on the service activities help students to gain further understanding of course material a broader appreciation of the discipline and an enhanced sense of civic duty Service Transcripts Students at Hesston College have the opportunity to have a service transcript kept on file electronically for them Every act of service whether from a service learning course service in the community or field experience will be recorded on the students transcripts The service transcripts are given

    a Group Study Session A group study session meets regularly for designated courses to review and practice course concepts Led by a peer facilitator who has experience in the course group study sessions improve student performance by offering regularly scheduled out of class review sessions for the courses which often challenge students the most They are designed for all students enrolled in the course What does an advisor do An advisor helps you find your way in the world of academics You will be assigned to one faculty member to whom you can go for course selection understanding degree requirements grades and transfer information Your academic advisor is interested in your academic success at Hesston College You may go to your advisor s office anytime you have a question or concern about your classes or plan of study First year students connect with their academic advisor each week for the first eight weeks of the semester Will someone monitor my academic progress Your academic advisor is very interested in your success and is the one who will help you stay informed and on track in your coursework The Student Success Team consists of faculty and staff from residential life and academics This group monitors academic success and supports students in academic crisis by helping them create plans of improvement and accountability What if I have a documented disability Students with a learning disability need to share professional documentation most recent IEP Summary of Performance or school psychological evaluation of the disability with the Disability Services Coordinator in order to receive the accommodations they need to be successful Common accommodations include extended time or a quiet place to take tests books in electronic format or note taking services Even if you do not request accommodations it is helpful if your documentation
