    completed a map product titled Geologic Cross Sections Across the Mahomet Bedrock Valley Champaign Ford McLean New Energy Dispersive X Ray Fluorescence EDXRF Facility Available at ISGS The Illinois State Geological Survey ISGS a division of the Prairie Research Institute at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign has expanded its analytical capabilities by adding a new energy dispersive X ray Construction Aggregates Sand Gravel and Crushed Stone and Silica Sands in the Economy of Illinois Subhash Bhagwat Principal Economist for the Illinois State Geological Survey ISGS recently completed a report commissioned by the ISGS titled Construction Aggregates and Silica Berg and Frailey Advocate for Energy Frontier Research Centers in Congressional Briefing Scott Frailey Senior Reservoir Engineer and Richard Berg Illinois State Geological Survey Director traveled to Washington DC on April 16 to participate in a Congressional briefing on the Ener Richard C Berg Named New Director of the Illinois State Geological Survey On June 16 Dr Richard C Berg was named the new Director of the Illinois State Geological Survey ISGS and 13th State Geologist He succeeds Dr E Donald McKay III who retired in May 2014 See All Achievements ISGS in the News Erosion threatens the Driftless Area Geologists Sam Panno and Don Luman of the Illinois State Geological Survey will present a talk on threats to underground water quality in the driftless area of Jo Daviess County Source Journal Standard Freeport IL New exhibit will provide look at giant ancient mollusk Endolobus spectabilis will be on display around the state with a fossil of an E spectabilis shell ISGS paleontologist Joe Devera put together the exhibit and worked with a sculptor on the model Source Illinois News Bureau Champaign Urbana IL Carbon dioxide storage is focus of new center s mission Edward Mehnert a senior geohydrologist and

    and will help determine the proximity of coal mines and underground industrial mines to your home or business Gamma Ray Logs Database The ISGS Geologic Mapping Program Gamma Ray Logs Database uses an interactive map to allow users to view individual logs and standardized borehole location information for 19 counties in Illinois Illinois Historical Aerial Photography ILHAP 1937 1947 On May 12 1933 President Franklin Roosevelt signed into law the Agricultural Adjustment Act which was originally administered by the United States Department of Agriculture Agricultural Adjustment Administration USDA AAA Since the mid 1930s the USDA AAA now the USDA Farm Services Agency periodically acquired nationwide aerial photographs by county These aerial photographs were originally used by the USDA AAA to assess the nation s agricultural lands and served as the basis for the national soil surveys Illinois Oil and Gas Resources ILOIL Interactive Map The Illinois Oil and Gas Resources mapping project enables on line access to a large database of over 200 000 Illinois oil and gas well records This database has been in development for many years by the Illinois State Geological Survey Illinois Water Well ILWATER Interactive Map The ISGS is an official repository for records of wells drilled in the state of Illinois Paper records are archived for over 700 000 wells Some of these records go back as far as the late 1800s ISGS Seismometer Data The ISGS seismometer is located in the Natural Resources Building on the campus of the University of Illinois at Latitude 40 1011 N and Longitude 88 2290 W This installation is designed for educational purposes and is not part of the national seismic network Public Land Survey System PLSS Instructions This web page will allow you to enter an Illinois address and determine its legal description to the section

    Survey is to bridge the gap between the geologist and the general public and to make the fruits of the science available to the layman according to his particular needs and desires Geology may be approached through the layman s wish to understand and to interpret a little more of the things of nature to expand his horizon Or he may come to the science through a need for assistance in solving some economic problem Or he may be drawn to look more deeply into geology through a civic minded interest in or concern with public questions such as mineral conservation Geoscience Outreach has a two fold purpose There is the more immediate one of contributing to the particular individual s intellectual pleasure or material need But even more fundamental in a democracy where every voter is a policy maker is the necessity for the average citizen to be fully aware of the basic role that mineral resources and their proper utilization play in our social and economic system A corollary to this broader concept is the defining of the position that the particular state plays in relation to the national and international mineral picture We have unmistaken evidence that
