  • Conlin, Kathleen F.- ACTING (Emerita) - Illinois Theatre UIUC
    Emerita Kathleen F Conlin is Professor and Dean Emerita Her professional directing included 22 seasons at the Utah Shakespeare Festival where she served as Stage Director Associate Artistic Director and Casting Director for the LORT B Theatre Her productions ranged from classic American plays such as You Can t Take It With You and Foxfire to Shaw s Candida to major Shakespearean titles such as Richard III The Tempest King Lear Taming of the Shrew Richard II Love s Labor s Lost and others Her recent work at the Festival included triumphant re imaginings of A Midsummer Night s Dream whose design by Eric Stone was included in the Prague Quadrennial of Design a Leonardo Da Vinci inspired Tempest and a technology influenced adventure story for Pericles Her directorial work has also been seen in theatres coast to coast from the Colony Theatre in Los Angeles to the Peterborough Players in New Hampshire and several cities in between She has been recognized for directorial excellence by her nomination for the Zelda Fichandler Award by her professional union the Society of Stage Directors and Choreographers As a teacher of acting Dr Conlin has received two teaching awards one from the University of Texas College of the Arts and one from California State University Long Beach Her video Performing Shakespeare received an award for excellence Concentrating on deep dramaturgical analysis she has developed techniques applicable to both contemporary and classical texts with an emphasis on the integration of textual analysis with physical embodiment and vocal expressiveness At Illinois she has extended her work to the staging of Mozart operas such as Cosi Fan Tutti and The Magic Flute For the department of theatre she most recently directed The Brothers Size which featured the work of three senior B F A students the

    Professor Davis is a theatre historian with specialties in early American theatre Restoration theatre and Eighteenth Century cultural history His research interests include the economic and social influences of theatre in addition to First Amendment and censorship issues related to live performance His articles and reviews are found in the leading theatre journals including Theatre Survey Theatre History Studies Journal of American Drama and Theatre Modern Drama Theatre Research International Restoration 18th Century Studies Journal of American History and Theatre Journal He was a major contributor to the Cambridge History of American Theatre 1999 winner of the Barnard Hewitt Award from the American Society for Theatre Research and the Special Jury Award of the Theatre Library Association He also contributed major essays to The American Stage Engle and Miller eds Cambridge The Cambridge Guide to American Theatre Wilmeth ed and Inventing Times Square Taylor ed Russell Sage Foundation His book From Androboros to the First Amendment A Cultural and Political History of America s First Play is to be published by the University of Iowa Press in 2013 Additionally Professor Davis has worked as a professional actor and dramaturg with a number of award winning Chicago based companies including Remy Bumppo Defiant Strawdog Writer s Theatre and Steppenwolf In the summer of 2007 Professor Davis performed as Jeff Perry s understudy in the world premiere of the Tony Award winning production of August Osage County at Steppenwolf in Chicago Awards include the 2006 revival of Gore Vidal s The Best Man with Remy Bumppo After Dark Award for Best Ensemble Jeff Nomination for Best Ensemble and The Philadelphia Story 2008 Jeff Nomination for Best Production also with Remy Bumppo He served as the resident dramaturg at Remy Bumppo Theatre Company from 2004 to 2008 and was the dramaturg for Sonia
