    J has participated in several faculty learning communities and has performed research on active learning in the classroom His work in SB 015 IU s premier Active Learning Space ALS led to an invitation to speak on curriculum and classroom management at CITL s Symposium on ALS in 2014 Most recently J presented results from a Phase II SOTL grant Decoding Computer Science and Informatics at ISSOTL 2015 Virginia Hojas Carbonell Spanish and Portuguese Virginia has been teaching Spanish at IU since 2007 where she also serves as the assistant director of the Spanish Basic Language Program She received an M A with a double major in Spanish and TESOL and an M A in Secondary Education from West Virginia University in 2004 and worked as a Spanish instructor for three years at Ohio University before finding her home in Bloomington Virginia is also the Spanish ACP program coordinator training high school instructors to offer college level courses in their institutions After attending the Summer Flipped Classroom workshop and the Course Development Institute Virginia is looking forward to applying new teaching approaches and techniques to her classes and then sharing them with her colleagues Julie Knapp Recreation Park and Tourism Studies Julie Knapp is a clinical assistant professor in the School of Public Health s Recreation Park and Tourism Studies department Julie currently teaches management career and internship courses and serves as her department s internship coordinator She also is the director of IU s Executive Development Program for Park and Recreation Professionals which is a continuing education program In 2015 Julie served on the Faculty Learning Community for Active Learning Spaces and is excited about the opportunity to continue that work as a Mosaic Faculty Fellow Julie plans on transforming her Career and Internship Preparation course into an active learning course in SB015 Fall of 2016 The class will be redesigned for its 85 students which has been traditionally taught in a lecture hall at IU Erika Lee Informatics Erika Lee is a lecturer in informatics where she teaches programming and building the foundations for a cluster of web development courses Since 2009 Erika has taught graphic design and web design and visual communications to IU undergrads since 2010 For two years she served as a visiting journalism lecturer in IU s Media School Erika received an M A in Journalism from IU in 2004 and holds a B A from Oberlin College She was the director of communications for the University Graduate School at IU where she also worked on a National Science Foundation grant to increase underrepresented minorities in science math and technology doctoral degree programs She gives workshops nationally on web development and digital storytelling Elaine Monaghan Journalism Elaine Monaghan a professor of practice at IU s Media School is convinced that expanding her repertoire of active learning techniques will strongly benefit her journalism and public relations students In her teaching her goal is always to share the writing and analytical skills she acquired during a
