    have been submitted to Curricunet by Fall 2014 in order to be requested with this form If you have a special request to teach a course as Honors that does not have a separate course outline please contact Kay Ryals at kryals ivc edu 2015 16 IVCHonorsCourseSchedulingForm docx Request to Teach Linked Co enrolled Honors Courses for 2014 15 In the 2014 15 school year the Honors Program would like to pilot an interdisciplinary Honors module using two linked Honors courses from different disciplines Students would be required to enroll in both courses with enrollment capped at 20 students Interested faculty members should submit a completed Honors Interdisciplinary Proposal Form to Kay Ryals at honorsprogram ivc edu by February 14 2014 Proposing faculty should also submit an Honors Scheduling Form by January 30 see above IVCHonorsInterdisciplinaryProposalForm doc Characteristics of an IVC Honors Course Honors courses at Irvine Valley College are designed to provide students with academic experiences and requirements not normally available in a conventional course What typically distinguishes an Honors course from a non honors course is not the quantity of work required but the attainment of a higher level of quality and sophistication that comes about from more intense student involvement in class discussions a wider exposure to the critical literature and more sophisticated analyses of a given topic The UC system requires that Honors course outlines show evidence of increased content and or rigor In most cases the Honors course will reproduce the course outline of the regular version of the course but will show evidence of this enhanced content and or rigor and innovative pedagogy To find out more about constructing an Honors course please see the Building your Honors Curriculum handout Building Your Honors Curriculum The document below contains two parts that will provide guidance

    News Events Calendar Faculty Resources FAQs Testimonial Academics Home Page Content Frequently Asked Questions Q Where do I find the Honors Program office A The Honors Program office is located in the A 200 building Room A 201 It includes A dedicated classroom for honors courses An Internet connected study lounge and meeting area The office of the program director and administrative assistant Q When are Honors Program applications due A There is no absolute deadline to apply to the Honors Program The program accepts applications year round Q Can I enroll in an honors course without being a member of the Honors Program A Yes We welcome students who are interested in honors courses Q If I complete an honors course will there be any indication on my transcript A Yes Students who complete an honors course receive an H annotation beside that course on their transcript as well as recognition at graduation Q Can I count a previously completed honors course taken prior to my Honors Program membership toward the 15 letter graded units I need to complete the program A Yes Those courses will be applied retroactively to your honors record and count towards program completion Q
