    Speaker Series on February 14 will include a presentation by entrepreneur and author King L Taylor Jr regarding owners of Negro Leagues baseball teams and other black business leaders The Events and Community Outreach Committee the Cultural Diversity Committee and the Student Senate will co host a public lecture by History Professor Dr Scott Holzer on Friday February 28 at 1 p m in the Library on the Hillsboro campus titled The Harlem Renaissance The Birth of a New Consciousness and the Origins of the Civil Rights Movement The presentation examines the paintings music writings and dance of the important artists that explored and created a new consciousness for African Americans Also included in the college s Black History Month recognition is a Look Listen Learn public display in the Library on the Hillsboro campus regarding black authors and books about African Americans To view the online display click here PACE Series to Feature Concert by Missouri Saxophone Quartet February 9 The Jefferson College Performing Arts and Cultural Enrichment PACE event series will continue with a concert by the Missouri Saxophone Quartet which includes Jefferson College Music Assistant Professor Director of Jazz Dr Joel Vanderheyden on Sunday February 9 at 3 p m in the Fine Arts Theatre on the Hillsboro campus The event is suitable for all ages The Missouri Saxophone Quartet MSQ was formed in 2009 and is devoted to exploring and promoting new music particularly that of Missouri composers MSQ performs a wide variety of styles from baroque transcriptions to traditional French repertoire to jazz and tango and the avant garde Members of the quartet include Leo Saguiguit on soprano Adrianne Honnold on alto Joel Vanderheyden on tenor and Matt Kendrick on baritone Admission to the show is 5 adults 2 students and seniors Questions about tickets
