    the video below to view part of her story Scholars share inspirational stories at return of community speaker series By Shaun Chillingworth September 10 2015 Scholar and educator Rouel Velasco will present this month s keynote presentation Seeking Your Excellence Huliko a Kaiāulu Scholar Speaker Event WHO UH West O ahu educator Rouel Velasco will present Seeking Your Excellence with a student reflection by current Mohala extern CJ Woods WHEN Tuesday Sept 15 5 30 8 00 p m WHERE Kamehameha Schools Community Learning Center at Māʻili 87 790 Kulauku St RSVP A free simple dinner will be served and childcare will be provided Please email kapua ksbe edu or call 670 2045 to RSVP or for more information The Huliko a Kaiāulu Scholar Speaker Series will return to the Community Learning Center at Mā ili CLC M on Tuesday Sept 15 The series is an opportunity for the community to celebrate the pursuit of higher education and listen to scholars from the Wai anae Coast share their mana o while learning more about topics that impact their lives as residents of the region Attendees can expect to hear some inspiring stories and community research learn how to access higher education resources and enjoy a lite dinner Keiki care will be provided so parents can participate in the evening s conversation For the first presentation of this year scholar Rouel Velasco will present Seeking Your Excellence which will talk about the practice of reflection and envisioning your ideal self Velasco who hails from Mā ili is an experienced highly motivated and energetic practitioner and educator at the University of Hawai i West O ahu He has over 10 years of professional training and facilitation experiences in student activities and leadership education Velasco earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in history with a minor in sociology and a Master of Education degree in higher education administration from the University of Hawai i at Mānoa He is actively involved in community organizations and experiences committed to the advancement empowerment and access of students from underrepresented and disadvantaged communities in higher education An exciting new component of this year s series is that each month will start with a presentation from a current college student This month s student reflection will be given by Cameoljade CJ Woods Woods is currently serving as a Mohala program extern with Kamehameha Schools She is pursuing her bachelor s degree in sociology social work She will share her experiences as a current college student and participant in the MA O Youth Leadership Training program and Ho owaiwai YLT internship The event starts at 5 30 p m An RSVP is appreciated Call 670 2045 or email kapua ksbe edu to confirm your attendance CLC M is located at 87 790 Kulauku St in Mā ili Huliko a Kaiāulu is sponsored by Kamehameha Schools INPEACE the UH Hawai inuiākea School of Hawaiian Knowledge and MA O Organic Farms Future presentations are scheduled for Oct 20 Feb 16 March
