    at Knowledge Systems Institute Policy Statement Knowledge Systems Institute recognizes the importance of encouraging and supporting faculty and staff in professional development activities that are related to their employment These activities include work related professional development opportunities including but not exclusive to eLearning webinars in related fields massive online open courses MOOCs employee workshops courses classes and professional conferences The following points outline the responsibilities for KSI team members regarding professional development KSI leadership is responsible for identifying creating and providing opportunities for professional development and training to enhance and build the capacity skills excellence and professionalism of employees to enable them to contribute effectively and creatively to the KSI s mission KSI leadership is responsible for actively encouraging and supporting appropriate learning experiences Leadership has the final approval for funding and providing time for professional development and training opportunities Faculty and staff employees are responsible for assessing their job related skills and knowledge for maintaining a high level of performance throughout their employment and for seeking approval for appropriate professional development and training opportunities in consultation with leadership Professional development and training opportunities should be available to all employees Management needs to plan for and allow appropriate professional development and training activities that occur as part of work time Professional development and training activities that require time away from the employee s workplace must be approved by KSI leadership Professional development and training activities outside of and in addition to regular work hours require written approval in advance if the activities are to be considered as regular work for overtime compensation Procedures 1 All regular full time employees are eligible for professional development reimbursement 2 Professional development can be obtained through attendance at seminars educational courses and degree programs that once acquired will assist the employee in performing his or her essential job functions and increase the employee s contribution to the organization 3 Other professional development expenses that are reimbursable under this policy are membership fees to professional organizations registration fees for meetings conferences workshops and seminars fees and subscriptions for scholarly journals books and computer based resources 4 Employees must request permission from the Executive Director or Chief Financial Officer for review and approval to attend and to receive reimbursement for desired training and or resource The request must include applicable course of study purpose job relevance cost dates times of coursework and name of the institution or source of training 5 Upon satisfactory completion of the training and or coursework the employee must provide documentation to support completion and payment in order to receive reimbursement Maximum reimbursement will be up to 2 500 annually If not used the amount does not roll into the next calendar year it is forfeited 7 Eligible employees are entitled to 10 working days of professional development to be approved at the discretion of management and the business needs Faculty Professional Development Professional development for faculty members and instructors should be undertaken in order to enhance academic related knowledge and expansion
