    did free agents react to the creation of colonial and overseas monopolies by the English and later British government in the Early Modern period My research focusses on England s trade with Africa and the Atlantic in the early modern period This includes the history of the English Africa companies as well as their relation with the merchant community of 17th century London My interest also include the development of English colonial policy in the late 17th century and the role and influence of merchants in the institutional and political decisions making of the first British Empire Julie s research is part of Dr Catia Antunes ERC project Fighting Monopolies Defying Empires 1500 1750 a Comparative Overview of Free Agents and Informal Empires in Western Europe and the Ottoman Empire Curriculum vitae Julie finished her MA in Early Modern History titled The Transatlantic Slave Trade Database Qualitative Possibilities and Quantitative Limitations at King s College London in September 2012 Her MA focused on opportunities and pitfalls in the use of online resources when choosing your approach to research on the transatlantic slave trade Before enrolling at King s she completed a BA in history focused on the economic development of
