    your program It is suggested that you choose a location based on your own personal interest or research Perhaps you have done extensive research on a particular region or sometimes it is wise to choose a location that will be popular among the students Advertisement and Recruitment It is important to identify the group of students you will be targeting to recruit for your program Are you focusing only on students studying the major or minor Would you like it to be an upper level course Can it have an interdisciplinary component to it Once you determine this it will make advertisement easier There are several ways to get the word out by email flyers information sessions and talking the program up in your current courses Budget The cost of the program is going to be key for most of the students and so it is very important to have a cost friendly program to gain student support You want to look into building budget that will assist you in making a sustainable program It is always wise to look into grants to fund the program in its first time running to help you get it off the ground Logistics It is necessary for you to take into consideration all other components of the program besides the academics like transportation housing and meals You will need to have this well thought out and planned carefully for your students as well as their parents This can take a little research on your part but it is important for cost reasons to find a good deal that will not cost you very much for all of this Forms Inquiry Form Program Proposal Form For more detailed information regarding important things to consider when planning your own program please take a look at

    Us Member s Area Prospective Students INSTRUMENTALIST There are no tryouts for membership in the Marching Thunder for instrumentalists However auditions are required for new students that wish to apply for a partial tuition scholarship through the marching band These partial tuition scholarships are in limited supply and are available on a first come first serve basis If you are interested in auditioning for a partial tuition scholarship please complete the online information form by following the Contact Us link on the home page Select the audition date that best fits your schedule Audition Requirements prepared music of the student s choosing a short sight reading piece that we will provide Percussionists should also be prepared to play basic rudiments COLOR GUARD The purpose of the Color Guard audition process is to determine the talent level of each candidate and of the group as a whole The candidate s improvement and ability to learn new material is also an important component DANCERS Any Marshall student may try out for the Dance Team Tryouts are usually held each April For more information please contact Bridget Rowsey at mudancers aol com FEATURE TWIRLERS All candidates for Feature Twirler should bring 3 batons

    Area General Information Home Prospective Students General Information The Marshall University Marching Thunder is the largest and most visible student organization on campus With over 300 students the marching band provides entertainment and school spirit at football games basketball games and other community functions It provides a family for its members and fosters teamwork and dedication for a common goal If you have been accepted to Marshall University and would like to join the Marching Thunder please click here to register in our database We will send you updates and information throughout the summer Band camp will be August 13 19 2015 More information will be available in the coming months Marching band is a one credit course MUS 266 466 that meets Monday Wednesday and Friday from 3 30 5 30 The band performs at every home game as well as local marching band exhibitions Membership is open to all Marshall University students regardless of major and scholarship opportunities are available to those students wishing to audition Wind players are not required to audition for membership however there will be a simple audition to assign parts at band camp The Drumline Color Guard Majorettes and Featured Twirlers hold auditions

    Home Prospective Students Scholarship Information Marshall University offers two opportunities for financial assistance for members of the Marching Thunder Each band member receives a band stipend at the conclusion of the marching season In addition to the stipend students may apply for a limited number of partial tuition scholarships All new students interested in applying for a partial tuition waiver should audition on one of the designated audition dates The audition dates include a January February March and April dates These dates coincide with the audition dates set up by the Department of Music Use the link at the bottom of the page to set up an audition time If a new student is also a music major the audition for the Department of Music will also apply toward a tuition scholarship for the marching band Auxiliary members are also eligible for financial assistance In addition marching band may be used to satisfy the physical education requirement in the curriculum Marching Thunder students also receive one hour academic credit by enrolling in the marching band If you are unable to attend any of the audition dates and would still like to be considered for financial assistance you should contact the

    friends Q How many performances does the Marching Band have A We play at all home football games and usually take the full band to at least one traveling performance a year The band also performs at the post season bowl games and we often perform at regional marching band exhibitions competitions Q How do I join A Membership is open to all Marshall University Students There is no audition for winds and percussion members to get into the band but there will be a small audition to assign parts during band camp If you are interested in joining please fill out our New Member Interest Form so we can send you more information as Band Camp gets closer Q Do I register for a class for marching band A All students auditioning for membership should register for Marching Band MUS 266 for Freshmen and Sophomores and MUS 466 for Juniors and Seniors Marching Band is a graded class and each member MUST register for the class in order to participate in the band Q What if I have a class conflict with Marching Band A If a class conflict cannot be avoided do not assume that you cannot participate We understand that there are many lab and course conflicts with marching band during the week If you have exhausted all other scheduling options we do permit members to miss one rehearsal per week due to a class conflict work and other personal conflicts are not permissible Class conflict requests should be submitted via email to Dr Dalton daltona marshall edu Q As a Marching Band member how much should I expect to pay A The University covers all travel costs related to participation in the marching band including providing all hotel costs and food costs while on band trips

    edition of the Marching Thunder or to watch the parade and support the university and the band Next on Friday October 23 at 7 30 PM the music department will present a Gala Concert in Smith Recital Hall on the Marshall campus featuring a concert band s and the Marching Thunder There will be a cocktail reception with a cash bar for alumni in the Smith Hall Atrium following the concert A 20 00 donation would be appreciated to help defray the cost of expanding the Alumni Band program The main event of the weekend is the Homecoming Game kicking off at 3 00 PM on Saturday October 24 Alumni Band members are invited to participate in the pre game and halftime performance s with the current Marching Thunder Participants will be offered two tickets to the game There is an alumni registration form on the band s website at http www marshall edu band alumni A complete schedule will be posted on the website closer to the event dates Please take a moment and register now so we can begin to get an idea about what sort of participation to expect this year If you have questions or comments please contact one of the following or visit the Marching Thunder Alumni Facebook page General Information Alumni will be provided with two tickets to the homecoming game Only the performing members will be allowed onto the field for pre game No guests will be allowed on the field The current Marching Thunder will perform the first half of pre game through the big HERD spell out Alumni will line up along the front sideline Once the band forms the M the alumni will move onto the field and get information We will play the National Anthem and Alma Mater together
