    student is enrolled at least half time 6 credit hours during the term The subsidized loan offers a 6 month grace period before repayment on the loan is expected The interest rate is determined each year by Federal guidelines For 2015 16 the Federal Subsidized Direct Loan interest rate is 4 29 From October 2014 October 2015 a loan fee of 1 073 will be assessed by the Department of Education before disbursement After October 1 2015 the loan fee is 1 068 Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan Eligibility for the Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan is not based on financial need The interest accrues on this loan while the student is still enrolled The student may pay this interest while in school or they can allow it to accrue and capitalize Repayment begins six months after the student graduates or ceases to be enrolled at least half time 6 credit hours during the term The interest rate is determined each year by Federal guidelines For 2015 16 the Federal Unsubsidized Direct Loan interest rate is 4 29 From October 2014 October 2015 a loan fee of 1 073 will be assessed by the Department of Education before disbursement After October 1 2015 the loan fee is 1 068 For information about repayment visit the Exit Counseling tab Federal Perkins Loans The Federal Perkins Loan is based on financial need Interest on the loan is paid by the Federal Government as long as the student is enrolled at least half time 6 credit hours during the term The Perkins Loan offers a 9 month grace period before repayment on the loan is expected The interest rate is 5 fixed If you have been offered a Federal Perkins Loan on your financial aid award letter please be sure to complete your master promissory note Millikin s Perkins Loan is processed by our loan servicer Educational Computer Systems Inc ECSI Parent Loans for Undergraduate Students PLUS This federal loan program allows parents to borrow on behalf of their dependent student who is attending at least half time 6 credit hours The annual limit for this loan is determined by subtracting the total financial aid received from the student s total cost of attendance The loan requires successful completion of a credit check For 2015 16 the interest rate is 6 84 The Dept of Ed will assess a fee of 4 292 for disbursements before October 1 2015 and 4 272 after October 1 2015 Parents can apply online at www studentloans gov Repayment begins 60 days after the loan is fully disbursed The PLUS loan can be deferred until the student graduates or ceases to be enrolled The deferment option can be requested through the loan servicer If a parent is not approved for the PLUS Loan we will offer up to 4000 additional for Freshmen and Sophomores and up to 5000 additional to Juniors and Seniors in the Unsubsidized Direct Loan The parent will receive an immediate response on his her PLUS

    financial need and deadlines and requirements vary All MU scholarships apply toward tuition only and require full time enrollment Scholarships Grants Scholarships Name Description Amount Deadline Millikin Merit Scholarship All students whose admission application and academic profile demonstrate a significant potential for contributing to campus life will be granted a merit scholarship Merit Scholarships are renewable for four years 10 000 20 000 Rolling College of Fine Arts Awards in Art Music Theatre or Dance College of Fine Arts Awards are given to students who are pursuing studies in art music theatre or dance who show significant promise of contribution in the arts Awards are determined after completion of an audition interview or portfolio review To retain the award the student must remain involved in the program for which the scholarship was awarded 1000 to 5 000 Rolling Presidential Scholarship The Presidential Scholarship is a prestigious full tuition scholarship renewable for four years This award is for the best of the best Presidential Scholars are leaders in Millikin s Honors Program Admitted students can access the application through their VIP page Interviews will be held in February Up to Full Tuition February 1 Provost Scholarship The Provost Scholarship is a 5 000 scholarship renewable for four years It is awarded to outstanding students who can choose to be a part of the Honors Program Admitted students can access the application through their VIP page Interviews will be held in February 20 000 5 000 year February 1 Long Vanderburg Scholars Program The Long Vanderburg Scholars Program is for high achieving students who show a strong commitment to diversity leadership and community service Admitted students can access the application through their VIP page Interviews will be held on campus 8 000 2 000 year 5 000 travel grant opportunity February 1 Leighty Science Scholars Program The Leighty Science Scholars Program is designated for high achieving Biology Chemistry or Physics majors and includes graduate level research opportunities and a summer stipend Admitted students can access the application through their VIP page 10 000 2 500 year 3 000 summer research stipend February 1 Sly Scholarship The Thomas S Sly Scholarship is an annual endowed scholarship award for freshmen exploratory studies students who are exploring all the possibilities and have not yet declared a major To apply for the scholarship students must submit a 100 word essay explaining why they are choosing to begin an academic career by exploring the possibilities Admitted students can access the application through their VIP page Varies February 1 Caterpillar Scholarship Through the generosity of Caterpillar Inc Millikin University offers a limited number of 2 500 scholarships to new and current students Preference is given to dependents of Caterpillar employees If funding allows students majoring in business who live in the Decatur geographic area who have demonstrated a financial need and a high potential for academic success may be considered FAFSA and new application is required each year Admitted students can access the application through their VIP page
