    Founder s Day Lindsay Medallion Give To MU Give Ways to Give Millikin Fund Big Blue Club Patrons Society About Faculty Staff Directory At A Glance Mission Values Millikin History Employment Accreditation University Marketing Administration Office of the President Office of the Provost Student Development Board of Trustees Faculty Staff Directory Media Newsroom Calendar of Events Video Gallery Photo Gallery Press Kit Honor Band Festival School of Music You are here Home Academics College of Fine Arts School of Music Special Events Honor Band Festival Millikin Symphonic Wind Ensemble and High School Honor Band Featuring guest conductor composer Brian Balmages Monday October 26 2015 rehearsal from 9 00am to 3 30pm and performance at 6 00 p m on stage at Kirkland Fine Arts Center With faculty horn soloist Stephen Schepper We invite you to nominate up to five students from your school to participate in this year s High School Honor Band Students will be selected by year in school order of nomination and musical qualifications IMEA District All State Solo and Ensemble etc Students will rehearse with the Honor Band at the Kirkland Fine Arts Center from 9am to 3 30pm that day and perform at 6pm with the Millikin Symphonic Wind Ensemble Participation fee is 20 per student and each participant receives lunch that day as well as a masterclass by Millikin faculty The performance is free Nominate your students using the form below Nomination Form via Google Forms Director s Workshop with Brian Balmages and Millikin Wind Ensemble Sunday October 25 2015 at 6pm Bringing the Score to Life A Composer s Approach to Score Study and Rehearsals Brian Balmages well known composer and clinician will demonstrate techniques for conveying musical interpretation to school ensembles based on score study and dynamic rehearsal techniques We will learn how to capture the composer s intent and effectively shape your ensemble s performance to bring that intent to life through throughout the rehearsal and performance process The Millikin Wind Ensemble will serve as the demonstration ensemble playing music by Mr Balmages and others 25 registration fee free for directors whose students are participating in the Honor Band For more information contact Dr Neal Smith Director of Instrumental Music Education at nsmith millikin edu Brian Balmages guest conductor composer Brian Balmages b 1975 is an active composer conductor producer and performer His fresh compositional ideas have resulted in a high demand for his wind brass and orchestral music throughout the world He received his bachelor s degree in music from James Madison University and his master s degree from the University of Miami in Florida Mr Balmages compositions have been performed worldwide at conferences including the College Band Directors National and Regional Conferences the Midwest Clinic the International Tuba Euphonium Conference the International Trombone Festival and the International Trumpet Guild Conference His active schedule of commissions and premieres has incorporated groups ranging from elementary schools to professional ensembles including the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra the Miami Symphony Orchestra the University of
