    Fine Arts Center Student Life Health Wellness Centers Facilities Campus Involvement Dining Residence Life Services Student Handbook Public Safety Information Technology Career Center Support Services Alumni Friends Get Involved Stay Connected Alumni News Quarterly Magazine Alumni Directory Featured Alumni Resources Alumni Events Alumni Calendar Homecoming Goodheart Event Founder s Day Lindsay Medallion Give To MU Give Ways to Give Millikin Fund Big Blue Club Patrons Society About Faculty Staff Directory At A Glance Mission Values Millikin History Employment Accreditation University Marketing Administration Office of the President Office of the Provost Student Development Board of Trustees Faculty Staff Directory Media Newsroom Calendar of Events Video Gallery Photo Gallery Press Kit School of Nursing College of Professional Studies You are here Home Academics College of Professional Studies School of Nursing Program Highlights The School of Nursing now offers the opportunity for the Professional Registered Nurse who holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree or is prepared at Master of Science in Nursing level as an Advanced Practice Nurse to complete the Doctor of Nursing Practice The Doctor of Nursing Practice DNP is a practice focused doctorate designed to prepare advanced practice nurses to lead practice changes based on evidence to improve patient outcomes in complex healthcare systems Program details In Spring 2014 Millikin University launched the DNP for individuals who are preparing to become nurses who seek to complete the practice doctorate as their highest earned academic degree BSN DNP Students in the Millikin University and Decatur Memorial Hospital Nurse Anesthsia Program NAP are enrolled as a cohort in the DNP Progression must be continuous and full time throughout the program of study The BSN to DNP NAP degree consists of 88 credit hours and includes 2400 hours of clinical practice and residency An advanced graduate level statistics course must be completed prior to admission Typically DNP NAP students are enrolled in the Graduate Core courses on Fridays and in the DNP Core and DNP Specialty courses from Monday through Thursday each week Theory and practice schedules are set by the School of Nursing in collaboration with its practice partners and often fall outside of the traditional academic calendar published in the Millikin Bulletin The DNP NAP graduates are eligible to take the National Certification Examination administered by the National Board of Certification and Recertification of Nurse Anesthetists NBCRNA The Millikin University and Decatur Memorial Hospital Nurse Anesthesia Program is accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs COA 222 S Prospect Ave Park Ridge IL 60068 847 65 The program s next review by the COA is scheduled for March 2016 Preparing for a Life of Meaning The School of Nursing faculty earnestly believes that the best nurse is one who is well rounded both professionally and personally We are committed to delivering on the promise of education as described in the mission of the University We prepare students for professional success Our students have a 100 placement rate and are highly sought by prestigious health care

    Board of Trustees Faculty Staff Directory Media Newsroom Calendar of Events Video Gallery Photo Gallery Press Kit Mudbloods Muggles and Misfits Millikin students experience the world of Harry Potter through global studies You are here Home About Media Newsroom Mudbloods Muggles and Misfits January 27 2016 at 1 15pm Dane Lisser For Cori Grzenia a Millikin University music education major from Lombard Ill the chance to visit London as part of a January immersion course was quite the eye opening experience Grzenia along with eight Millikin classmates engaged in a global studies course during winter break that centered on J K Rowling s fantastical wizarding world of Harry Potter The students spent six days in London and experienced The Making of Harry Potter while visiting Warner Bros Studio London The students capped off their trip with a three day visit to Orlando Fla to see The Wizarding World of Harry Potter a themed area spanning two theme parks Islands of Adventure and Universal Studios Florida at the Universal Orlando Resort But this course was more than a visit to Hogwarts castle it was an opportunity to analyze Rowling s Harry Potter series The class learned that the lens from which they viewed the world of Harry Potter was the lens of power and prejudice The purpose of the course was to foster critical thinking about the ways in which power and prejudice have impacted people and communities throughout the world I had a moment of realizing just how many people s lives this franchise has touched said Grzenia It surely touched mine and I m glad I had the opportunity to take this course and travel to Europe for the first time see the studios where my favorite franchise was filmed and live out my fantasies in Florida with plenty of like minded people Dr Ngozi Onuora Millikin assistant professor of education and Molly Berry director of the Office of Inclusion and Student Engagement instructed the course I ve been wanting to teach this course for a long time Dr Onuora said Molly Berry and I had worked together on previous projects and we both have a passion for the Harry Potter series I shared my ideas about the course with Molly and she was right on board In March 2015 Onuora and Berry began brainstorming how a travel component could be integrated with the course The idea was not just talking about the books and connecting power and prejudice but actually seeing the land that Harry Potter was imagined in walking through the streets of London and being immersed in the experienced said Berry Dr Onuora added When I first started conceptualizing a class on this subject a few years ago I did not want it to feel that I was teaching only about the characters but understanding the themes that could be pulled out of it Power and prejudice were elements that came to the forefront What we wanted to do was a global studies class and move
