    he grew up in Seattle and now lives in Cambridge As a life sciences editor and writer for MITER he sources primarily research focused articles with tangential intellectual excursions into ideas on venture capital and technology translation Chris enjoys sailing the Charles River reading classic literature and astrophysics books traveling to places other people only read about and BASE jumping off the Green Building John Casey John is a Biological Engineering PhD candidate in Prof Angela Belcher s laboratory where he studies protein engineering and de novo enzymology He has served as Associate Director of the MIT 100K Entrepreneurship Competition and remains on the Board of Directors John earned a BS in Biological Engineering at LSU in Baton Rouge Louisiana focusing on photochemical genetic engineering strategies While there he also obtained a minor in Mandarin Chinese with particular interest Chinese business and entrepreneurship and spent several months in Harbin China before moving to Cambridge to start his PhD as a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellow MITER Hall of Fame Betar Gallant Betar Gallant is a fourth year graduate student in Mechanical Engineering and a National Science Foundation fellow She received her S B and S M degrees from M I T She is passionate about changing the clean energy scene through the development of new devices and materials that can store and convert energy electrochemically Her research focuses on nanoscale energy storage materials for lithium ion and lithium air batteries electrochemical capacitors and desalination applications Betar s experience includes work as a technology program specialist at the U S Department of Energy where she helped develop policy to encourage more students to pursue careers in science and technology She is also a 2012 Managing Director of the M I T Clean Energy Prize Jordi MataFink Jordi is a PhD student in chemical engineering at MIT and a writer for the Entrepreneurship Review His thesis research applies the tools of protein engineering to vaccine development He is interested in biotech entrepreneurship particularly as it applies to global health and neglected diseases Kevin McCarthy Kevin McCarthy was born and raised in Southern California graduating with honors from UC San Diego with degrees in Electrical Engineering and Physics He is currently a 5th year PhD candidate in the Figueroa Lab in MIT s Physics department where he develops simulation data analysis tools and next generation hardware for the Cryogenic Dark Matter Search CDMS experiment Kevin sees MITER as a fantastic opportunity to understand the interplay between scientific research and entrepreneurial ventures and disseminate the amazingly broad knowledge base of the MITER staff to the interested public Shambhavi Kadam Dante Cassanego Yvonne Chung VJ Patel Erdin Beshimov Rob Lemos Read MITER in another language Loading onclick prism integration activate Sign up for our mailing list First Name Last Name Email Address Recent Popular Random Perpetual experimentalists How successful entrepreneurs understand customers Posted on Apr 24 2014 How Great Entrepreneurs Mint Emotional Currency Posted on Nov 5 2013 How can you attract start ups
