    of Science in Management Studies Master of Science in Management Studies Home Program Background Admissions Curriculum Residency Tuition and Funding FAQ Attend An Event Online Application I ntroduce Yourself MSMS student blogs Employment Reports Program Background The Master of Science in Management Studies MSMS program is one of the cutting edge global initiatives offered at MIT Sloan to help shape and improve the future of principled management practice Proposed initially by a request from a partner school to allow visiting students an opportunity to earn a master s degree from MIT MIT Sloan created the MSMS program to meet the needs of a select group of top international MBA students who wished to do advanced research in a specific area of management In September 2009 the program welcomed the first class of students from SKK GSB Tsinghua University and HEC Paris These pioneering students demonstrated that their international MBA training equipped them to handle the rigors of the MSMS Program In the second year of operation the program has diversified the student population by admitting students from non partner schools MIT Sloan engages in formal and informal partnerships with business schools around the world to create a rich collaborative learning

  • Curriculum — Master of Science in Management Studies Program
    completed in MIT coursework This includes courses at MIT Sloan other MIT departments and Harvard University At least half of the classes 34 of the 66 units must be in the same concentration area as the Master s thesis 24 units that students are required to write and submit for approval Each student s curriculum and Master s thesis will be directed by a faculty adviser in his or her chosen concentration area An applicant must specify a proposed area of concentration in his or her application The specific concentration topic can combine courses in one of the following three MIT Sloan academic groups Behavioral and Policy Sciences which offers courses in strategy technological innovation entrepreneurship organization studies and international management Economics Finance and Accounting which offers courses in international economics applied microeconomics corporate finance financial engineering and managerial accounting as well as other subjects and Management Science which offers courses in operations management operations research and statistics information technology and marketing There are ten areas organized under the three academic groups Applicants should specify one of the ten areas as their concentration area on the online application Behavioral Policy Sciences Economic Sociology Program addresses the merging of Economic and Sociological research to gain a deeper understanding of organizations and the economy Institute for Work Employment Research addresses the full range of issues related to work labor and employment relations as well as human resource management labor market issues and related public policies Technological Innovation Entrepreneurship and Strategic Management addresses two areas the organization development and commercialization of technology based innovation in existing firms and the formation development and growth of technology based new enterprises Organization Studies a multidisciplinary activity that brings together the concepts and research methodology of social psychology sociology anthropology and other social sciences Economics Finance Accounting
