    third floor The Challenge Brighton High School is a Boston Public High School that serves students from all over the city There are 31 students in a class and it is difficult to give each student the attention they need Many students stay after school for individual help and support Our students are very good people that come from very poor living conditions They are committed to improving themselves and becoming a constructive part of our complicated global society They are young men and women with great dreams but no resources who come from all over Boston some with over a two hour commute one way They are remarkably innocent and still have faith that the public education system will enable them to succeed Many of them stay after school for hours working in any way they can find to improve their skills and academics our students deserve to be part of the solutions of the future They have a background and perspective that will allow them to better understand the problems that our society that our world faces and to approach them in novel ways Effort and resources must be invested to provide them with the skills and education necessary so that we don t lose the advantage that they offer Your presents will give them more attention and help This will make a great deal of difference and will be greatly appreciated MIT students will gain valuable experience in a classroom setting working specifically with underprivileged youth This will allow them to gain firsthand knowledge of the challenges faced by educators working in an urban setting They will begin to see how concepts can be applied broken down and interpreted to a high school audience Basic skills that will receive attention include team building mentoring leadership and problem

    federal regulator partners foundations and national nonprofits to advance this effort Bank On 2 0 builds on the success of a wide array of Bank On and related banking access programs While these first generation banking access programs have already connected hundreds of thousands of people to safe and affordable financial products the CFE Fund and its partners are building a national approach and infrastructure that includes products services best practices resources and other technical assistance to facilitate local efforts For more on the problems facing unbanked and underbanked Americans check out Spent Looking for Change a short documentary streaming free on YouTube on people who are shut out of the financial mainstream The Challenge As part of the Bank On 2 0 initiative the CFE Fund is planning an update of the national online platform www joinbankon or ensuring that it can be useful for residents local chapters and other stakeholders to facilitate banking access The new platform should build off the current Bank On website and leverage not replicate other existing resources We d like an MIT student to help us strategize the direction and content of the new website The student would help us review existing resources and understand current website usage lead discussions with stakeholders on what they would like to see as part of the new website explore potential partnerships to enhance the site s functionality and tools and provide guidance and recommendations on the design of a new website The student would also work with CFE Fund staff to secure a web design firm and potentially serve as a main contact with the firm during the design process Interns working on this project will have a large degree of ownership over the website design process They will gain a deep understanding of financial inclusion

    potential in college and the global marketplace and that inspire in students a life long love of learning achievement and service in order to positively change their world The Challenge Our organization has been bringing data science techniques to our student and teacher data sets but we need assistance creating higher level algorithms and interactive user experiences with data so we can continue to put the most impactful data on our students into the hands of their teachers We also need help turning untapped data sets like video and audio into actionable data for our teachers Thus our challenge is to create iterative algorithms that can identify students in need of academic interventions and create a user experience for our teachers that allows them to act on the data that comes out of these algorithms A side project will be helping developing educational content around Makerspaces that are part of our physics curriculum This will include spending time in classrooms interacting with students and teachers Qualifications Preferences and Assets Programming experience and algorithmic thinking is required for this project A fellow who will have the most success in this project would have in depth knowledge of one of the following R or Stata Python SQL User Experience Design If you have an interest in Education Technology and are looking to better understand the Education Sector this would be an ideal project for you Also if you have an interest of spending sometime in Makerspaces equipped with 3 D printers there is an opportunity to spend time in classrooms working with students and teachers on curriculum design around these Additionally we will provide learning sessions for you around education reform both nationally in the state of Texas and in the Dallas Ft Worth metroplex to allow the fellow to better contextualize

    family land not cultivated for two generations or more It was an opportunity to create a whole new approach to food entrepreneurs not constrained by old chemical and energy habits teaching them sustainable methods that on average gross 8000 per acre Challenge The Full Belly Project based in Wilmington NC is beginning to manufacture water pumping systems powered by gravity and photo voltaic panels They are intended to move small Appalachian farmers away from dependence on fossil fuels and grid electricity A key element in making these pumps affordable to farmers is accessing existing financial subsidies They are not easily accessed and are available from individual counties the State of North Carolina and the federal government Some of the application forms start out requiring a feasibility study Some are specific to livestock or certain crops We need an intern who is prepared to assemble all the options on one website with appropriate forms already partly filled out so the farmer need only add his name acreage etc We need samples of a minimal feasibility study that meets the agency s requirements so the farmer need only fill in some blanks North Carolina has a lot of farmers Caucasian African America and Lumbee Indian who have a history of avoiding governments at every level This leads to a lot of missed opportunities We intend to make financial support much more approachable and transparent Qualifications Preferences and Assets Clearly a lot of this work can be done anywhere with internet access but I believe that some travel and personal interaction with the test subjects is necessary Full Belly has an office in Wilmington NC and accommodations can be easily found All out of town travel will be provided by Full Belly Time Constraints We welcome an intern during IAP Contact Jock Brandis
