    s janitorial staff is using nontoxic green cleaners b UUCSR uses no pesticides Compost bins and only organic matter are used in our Community Garden c UUCSR recycles bottles cans paper etc Everything is sent to a recycling plant and they send these items to suitable sites d UUCSR uses recycled paper for our office copy machine e UUCSR has planted a community garden Place of Worship Malverne Jewish Center Malvern NY Contact person David Feldman Phone 516 719 9881 Email dfeldman lipower org 1 Building Efficiency Retrofitting a MJC has conducted an energy audit through LIPA b MJC has upgraded its lighting MJC upgraded building lighting to CFL s and energy efficient fixtures in 2006 under LIPA s RECAP program Included were sanctuaries classrooms offices hallways storage areas and other common areas They are realizing a return of almost 30 on our investment 2 Policy Decision Making and Outreach MJC has adopted a staff conservation policy to turn off equipment at night Adopted several years ago 3 Other Eco stewardship Initiatives MJC uses recycled paper for their office copy machine Place of Worship St Martin of Tours Amityville NY Contact person Keith Mainhart Phone 631 264 4840 Email smtoutreach optonline net See the following pages for areas of progress Building upgrades Renewables Fleets Policies Outreach Other Green Initiatives 1 Building Efficiency Retrofitting a We have conducted an energy audit through LIPA other consultant b We are taking a prescriptive approach making incremental steps i e lighting heating cooling system in all or most of our buildings 2 We have upgraded are in the process of upgrading and plan to upgrade the following heating cooling systems lighting 3 We did a major lighting redesign in our parish s conference room The previous design utilized only incandescent bulbs and provided very poor quality of light We replaced much of the lighting with T5 s and added compact fluorescents when we desired a dimmer light for the room The quality of light is much better but only uses about 30 of the energy a We are in the process of considering a location for photovoltaic PV solar panels solar water heating 4 Policy Decision Making and Outreach We have adopted the following resolution s policy ies on clean energy a X purchasing only Energy Star labeled office equipment b X We are committed to outreach on clean energy and environmental stewardship and have engaged in public education events for our congregation fellowship preached it from the pulpit or produced materials to inform the public or children about these important issues Describe The pastor preaches from the pulpit of Environmental Stewardship when the occasion arises I work with students in the school on Earth Day and throughout the year on what little things we can do to save the planet We also celebrate the feast day of Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha the Patroness of Ecology Our parish Bulletin prints articles periodically addressing ecological issues The parish has co founded with a neighboring parish a
