    Entrepreneur in Residence N C A T Office of Facilities Helps Build Habitat for Humanity Home for Local Family Members of North Carolina A T State University s Office of Facilities other university volunteers and the local Habitat for Humanity braved the cold air and muddy ground on Jan 16 because they were determined to fulfill their commitment to help a local family build their home The team worked from 8 a m to 3 30 p m charged with the specific task of installing vinyl siding While some took measurements others cut material and some installed The systematic process proved to be extremely proficient While the Office of Facilities involvement in the home s construction is part of the university s overall commitment to conduct 125 service projects on behalf of the 125 th Anniversary it s also the continuation of an ongoing relationship of service between the university and the Greensboro community The key issue is that we have been contributing to this community for 125 years What better way to celebrate our 125 th birthday than to do 125 community activities said Andrew Perkins Sr assistant vice chancellor of Facilities Here at North Carolina A T we believe that we should be able to get out here and assist those who need a little bit of a hand to get ahead in life Recipients of Habitat for Humanity s new home program are required to contribute at least 350 hours of Sweat Equity which includes time spent working on the construction of the home and the homes of other Habitat families and attending financial counseling and homeowner education courses Recipient family member Sana Tokol describes it as much more than a requirement It feels really good to have our own house It s nice to know what s going on with it and how they built it and having a part in it I like knowing what s going on Now if something happens I might know how to fix it because I helped to build it said Tokol Tokol and her family natives of Sudan have already completed over 300 hours of sweat equity and plan to be in the house by April The Office of Facilities has participated in three other service projects and is slated to visit a local nursing home soon to sing songs for residents For more information about N C A T s 125 Service Projects please visit http www ncat edu 125 service projects html Points of Pride Academic Athletic Arts prev Engineering Lab The College of Engineering ranks No 1 for the number of degrees awarded to African Americans Research U S News and World Report ranks the COE in the top third of the Best Undergraduate Engineering Programs ERC Research N C A T is the home of the National Science Foundation Engineering Research Center ERC Ag Research SAES brought in more than 20 million in research grant funding Webb Hall The School of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences

    consecutive year North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University is among the top 7 percent of universities in the world for campus sustainability and environment friendly university management according to Universitas Indonesia s GreenMetric Ranking of World Universities Four hundred seven universities were ranked in 2015 The University of Nottingham United Kingdom was ranked as the world s best green campus with the University of Connecticut and the University of California Davis coming in second and third respectively N C A T is listed at No 28 The 2015 results are computed from information provided by universities online under six categories infrastructure energy and climate change 21 percent waste management 18 percent water usage 10 percent transportation 18 percent and education 18 percent The collaborative effort involved academic and non academic units at the university with the following units contributing information for the 2015 survey Office of Enrollment Management Division of Human Resources Facilities Department Budget Office Division of Research and Economic Development Parking Services Center for Energy and Training Auxiliary Services Energy and Environmental Systems University Farm and the Waste Management Institute WMI Global national and local concerns for water waste transportation energy climate infrastructure and education issues present an opportunity and a challenge for North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University to mobilize resources and capabilities for developing effective sustainable solutions said Dr Godfrey Uzochukwu director of the WMI Points of Pride Academic Athletic Arts prev Engineering Lab The College of Engineering ranks No 1 for the number of degrees awarded to African Americans Research U S News and World Report ranks the COE in the top third of the Best Undergraduate Engineering Programs ERC Research N C A T is the home of the National Science Foundation Engineering Research Center ERC Ag Research SAES brought in more

    education of an A T student it gains 10 30 in added state income and social savings And for every dollar invested by taxpayers 4 20 is gained in added taxes and public sector savings The average annual return on investment for taxpayers is 12 1 percent These numbers represent the commitment of our students and alumni to make the Piedmont Triad and North Carolina their home and to create jobs through the entrepreneurship innovation and impactful research Martin said These numbers mean North Carolina A T and the A T family are doing their part to secure the region and state s economic growth Local leaders views Martin invited three of Greensboro s business and political leaders to give their perspective on the A T s economic impact Ed Kitchen vice president of the Joseph M Bryan Foundation of Greater Greensboro on A T s impact on economic development The university s commitment to educating students at such a high level and its innovative research make it easier to market the Piedmont Triad as a place for industry An educated workforce increases the amount and diversity of industries that want to come to this area Greensboro Mayor Nancy Vaughan on A T s local impact A T students live work and shop here and their dollars multiply throughout the city and the region creating jobs and opportunities for Greensboro residents The university continues to stimulate our local economy through visitor spending In the 2012 13 fiscal year alone A T generated more than 39 million in visitor spending U S Rep Alma Adams on the impact of A T research Now 124 years after the establishment of this university it continues as a public doctoral research institution that continues to remain third in research dollars in the UNC System That is a great deal of what this is all about generating additional research funding for A T faculty and students as they make great strides in solving complex problems in engineering food science Alzheimer s and many other disciplines of study An investment in the education of A T students yields additional research dollars that add to their educational experiences increase retention as well as attract and retain some of the world s best and brightest faculty researchers About the studies The economic impact studies were compiled by Economic Modeling Specialists International EMSI The conservative model used a Social Accounting Matrix input output model takes into account that dollars invested in A T and other universities could have been used for other purposes in the state Since 2000 EMSI has completed economic impact studies for educational institutions in the United States Canada the United Kingdom and Australia Its website is www economicmodeling com The data and assumptions used are based on 2012 13 academic and financial reports from the higher education institutions industry and employment data from the U S Bureau of Labor Statistics and the U S Census Bureau and additional sources The study was funded by the
