    may serve as backup to teach lectures for faculty Assists faculty with designing experiments Supports faculty with their undergraduate teaching laboratories and lecture demonstrations Provides direction and supervision to undergraduate laboratory assistants and work study students Develops and implements policies procedures and standards for lab operations to ensure the efficiency effectiveness and quality control of the laboratory and compliance with federal state and university regulations and standards Coordinates with the University Chemical Hygiene Officer Serves as a member of the Department of Biology Provides support and assistance related to facilities and equipment issues and repairs Cultures and maintains living materials for use in the biology teaching laboratories Cares for animals used in biology teaching laboratories Acts as resource person resolves problems and instructs others Provides technical guidance and assistance concerning work methods the use of equipment and techniques and the analysis of results Education Training and Related Experience Minimum of a master s degree in related field required Experience in laboratory preparation is preferred Core Competencies Strong analytical skills outstanding organizational skills and superb attention to detail are a must Exhibit professionalism and collegiality Demonstrate honesty sound judgment and ethical behavior Able to prioritize multi task and meet deadlines Outstanding verbal and written communication skills Ability to work in fast paced environment Knowledge of MS Office Word Excel and Outlook Advanced Excel or database experience helpful for inventory and other tasks Ability to communicate with co workers and vendors in a courteous and professional manner exhibit grace under pressure Ability to relate effectively with all members of a diverse academic community Be available during normal university operating hours responsible for the care and maintenance of living cultures plants and animals over breaks and holidays Environmental Conditions Physical Demands Indoors in laboratory environment with office attached at least eighty percent 80
