    Kit OSC Media Contacts Staff Directory Visit OSC Supercomputing Support Networking Support Networking Research Current Projects Past Projects Collaborators Contact Us Related Links Research Home Get an Account Systems Research OSC Networking Research Reports 2009 Research Highlights 2008 Research Report 2007 Research Report Cyberinfrastructure and Software Development Research E Weld Predictor Engineers at heavy manufacturing and energy industries today have access to a new online welding simulation tool E Weld Predictor thanks to the Ohio Supercomputer Center s Blue Collar Computing initiative and a partnership between OSC and Edison Welding Institute EWI This on demand product will allow welding engineers to evaluate the changes in temperature profiles material microstructures residual stresses and welding distortion to reduce the number of experimental trials during the design of welded joints and ultimately improve productivity and profitability Currently experimental welding procedure trials can be cost prohibitive due to the myriad of geometrical process and material combinations By using EWeld Predictor engineers can explore a wide range of what if combinations and simulations This results in a decrease in prototype costs and quicker production because E Weld Predictor manages the heavy lifting associated with evaluating multiple alternatives The number of trials also will be reduced since only the most promising welding procedures are sent to the mock up stage OSC programmers worked with EWI on the engineering application and collaborated on the user interface design developing the final Web layout and the middleware The Center also is hosting the application on its supercomputers For the last two decades simulation tools of this kind were only accessible to large scale industries who could afford the expertise technology and infrastructure required to take advantage of these simulation tools However the launch of this service levels the playing field said Henry Cialone CEO of EWI The first launch

  • Remote Instrumentation and Collaboration Environment (RICE)

    1000 8 hours 250 4 hours or 500 8 hours For Profit Rate 1000 4 hours or 2000 8 hours 500 4 hours or 1000 8 hours Check date availability of the OSC theater or the OSC Conference Room Basic rates for the OSC theater include one presentation laptop VCR microphones conference telephone three LCD projectors and screen setup Basic rates for the OSC Conference Room include a conference telephone plasma screen two LCD projectors and screen setup Advanced configurations and support in addition to basic set up such as Access Grid operations and visualization preparations are available at an additional charge Use of computers is not included in the rental cost of the Conference Room or theater There is a minimum rental time of four hours Bookings are for single events and NOT for reoccurring events during a period of time such as a class or workshop series BALE Advanced Configurations The following resources are available for an additional charge in the OSC BALE theater and Conference Room Advanced Configuration Info Download the Rental Contract PDF file OSC BALE theater OSC BALE Conference Room Computer Cluster 50 nodes Laptops 12 Polycom Video Conference unit Polycom Video Conference unit Access Grid Access Grid VCR VCR Internal External Event Priorities Priority will be given to OSC events and activities Outside groups will be allowed to rent the facilities on a first come first served case by case basis Please send an e mail to bale osc edu for more information Other Considerations The contract states the name of the organization or group holding the meeting as well as its address phone number and a contact name Other important information includes conference meeting dates hours of usage number of estimated attendees meeting room set up design audio visual requirements and rental cost The BALE coordinator will send clients a spec sheet that includes a diagram of the room set up catering requirements and audio visual equipment that are required for the meeting conference A preliminary spec sheet should be approved and returned to the BALE coordinator at least four weeks prior to the meeting date and a final spec sheet will be approved two weeks prior to the meeting date Deposit Payment The organization conducting the meeting will provide OSC with a deposit to hold the meeting space This deposit is 50 of the contract amount The deposit is due at the same time the preliminary spec sheet is submitted 4 weeks prior to the meeting date Deposits are non refundable if the meeting is cancelled The Rental Fee balance should be paid in full within 30 days of the event s last day Insurance Indemnification The organization conducting the meeting will agree that it shall at its sole cost and expense procure and maintain a policy of commercial general liability insurance in an amount not less than 1 000 000 per occurrence and 3 000 000 in the annual aggregate The organization conducting the meeting will agree that it shall at
