    her J D from Pace in 2004 and has been seizing opportunities to build her environmental legal career ever since Case in point When asked how she got her current job as Executive Director and Managing Attorney at Fair Shake Environmental Legal Services she replies simply I founded the organization Fair Shake is a 501 c 3 not for profit organization with offices in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania and Akron Ohio It is designed to be both a law firm for modest means clients with environmental and community health needs and a residency program that incubates practitioners into their own modest means practices At Fair Shake Emily supervises client matters mentors and teaches Resident Attorneys in practice skills and entrepreneurship and is responsible for the overall health and sustainability of the organization I always feel most proud when one of our young attorneys feels like they have accomplished something because we put our belief and confidence behind them says Emily Before founding Fair Shake Emily worked as a student attorney in the Pace Environmental Litigation Clinic an Assistant Public Interest Counsel at the Office of Public Interest Counsel in the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality and a clinical professor of law at the University of Pittsburgh School of Law where she directed the Environmental Law Clinic Looking back on her time at Pace Emily reports that the thing that best prepared her to practice was the Environmental Skills class and its focus on statutory interpretation and methods of interpretation I hear Professor Miller asking me What does the statute say every single time that I begin looking into working through an environmental legal question she half jokes Reflecting her proactive entrepreneurial spirit Emily encourages current Pace Law students and graduates to seek out and create opportunities for themselves In all likelihood you

    that he wanted to be a JAG lawyer and enlist in the military It was the Pace Law career fair during his second year that he changed his mind Growing up in Westchester Ian had a good handle on the companies in the surrounding area However at the career fair he was introduced to a company that he was unfamiliar with and interested him Westcon Group In the summer of 2010 Ian participated in Professor Kenneth Coughlin s Corporate Externship Program where law students receive credit in exchange for real in house law experience That summer Ian worked for Westcon and the opportunity shaped his post law school career During his time at Westcon Ian shadowed their in house attorneys and learned how an in house lawyer functions and works He performed M A work negotiated corporate and cloud computing transactions drafted corporate policies and more After that summer he left feeling as though he had found his calling and knew what he wanted to do While at Westcon Ian also developed many great mentor relationships After graduating from Pace in 2011 Ian went on to work at Harris Beach PLLC in White Plains for a year However he stayed in touch with his colleagues at Westcon and when there was an opening a year later Ian applied and was offered the position He is confident that he received the opportunity to work as an in house counsel quickly after law school because of his participation in the Corporate Externship program at Pace During his summer at Westcon he learned the inner workings of the business and had a leg up when it came time to fill the in house position Ian is grateful to Pace and Professor Coughlin who he notes has been a mentor to him for creating

    lead counsel in Riverkeeper s challenge to the Indian Point nuclear power plant s relicensing application for seven years Phillip was able to provide firsthand expertise throughout the film Indian Point a documentary about the controversial plant on the Hudson River north of Manhattan The film was directed and written by Ivy Meeropol and Phillip was featured extensively On April 17 he joined the former Commissioner of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission Greg Jaczko as well as local activists and journalists for a question and answer session with the filmmaker at the premiere of the film at the Tribeca Film Festival For nearly ten years Phillip served as the Hudson River Program Director at Riverkeeper in New York While at Hudson Riverkeeper Phillip focused his attention on reducing sewage pollution restoring native fisheries and as mentioned advocating against the relicensing of the Indian Point nuclear power plant His tally of wins for the environment is extensive during his time spent as lead attorney at Riverkeeper Notably he won a landmark federal court victory against the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and also negotiated a settlement with ExxonMobil regarding the remediation of a massive oil spill in Greenpoint Brooklyn Phillip was also appointed to several task forces including as a citizen advisor convened by the then Mayor Bloomberg to address climate resiliency challenges in New York City post Hurricane Sandy Phillip grew up in Kansas City and prior to his start as an attorney he was a professional chef in both Washington state and California From there he went on to receive his B A in Geography from the University of Washington During his time at undergrad he heard Bobby Kennedy speak about environmental concerns and discuss the environmental litigation clinic at Pace After that Phillip knew that if he was going to attend

    United Nations gave Marcia the opportunity to develop a passion for multicultural issues and diverse environments In addition to her hands on experience at the United Nations Marcia also interned at Zinbarg Emanuel and Associates a boutique law firm in Queens New York where she learned the fundamental principles of real state law workers compensation law and immigration law Marcia speaks fluent Spanish and conversational French and concentrates her practice in real estate bankruptcy and immigration law Her firm is located in White Plains and represents clients from every borough in New York City as well as Westchester and Putnam County She is very active in the legal community and is a member of the Westchester County Women s Bar Association the Hispanic National Bar Association and the Long Island Hispanic Bar Association Significantly community work is integral to Marcia s practice and what she believes the responsibilities of an attorney entail Her firm held a Know Your Rights workshop back in November 2014 where Marcia shared information about immigration law and allowed attendees to ask questions and gain insight on complicated issues This is just one of many workshops that Marcia and her firm have organized and intend to organize moving forward Read more about these workshops by clicking here Of her time at Pace Marcia says that there were unlimited resources available to her to ensure she was met with success upon graduating from the Program Marcia notes that the Academic Success Program at the Law School was vital to helping her pass the New York Bar Exam and she could not have done it without their support and guidance After her experience at Pace Law School Marcia wants to be a model to LLM students who may experience difficulties studying for the bar exam She believes that

    year It was then as a legal extern for DOJ s Environmental Crimes Section that she grew fond of public interest law and environmental litigation After graduation she moved Washington and began work at EPA When friends and former DOJ colleagues notified her of an attorney opening in the Environmental Enforcement Section she didn t hesitate to fill out the application and throw her hat into the ring and in the fall of 2008 she started at DOJ Robyn now counsels federal agencies in the development and initiation of civil judicial actions on behalf of the United States under major federal environmental laws including the Clean Water Act Clean Air Act Safe Drinking Water Act Oil Pollution Act Resource Conservation and Recovery Act and Comprehensive Environmental Response Compensation and Liability Act Robyn s cases are either resolved by a negotiated settlement or adjudicated in the federal courts Because Robyn is the conscientious federal attorney she is she reminds us that the views expressed in this article are hers alone and do not necessarily represent the views of the Department of Justice or the United States One of Robyn s proudest professional accomplishments to date came in 2011 when she became an adjunct professor for Pace co teaching the summer DC Environmental Externship class that she had once participated in as a student The opportunity to work with Pace students and guide them in their individual explorations of environmental law and legal practice has been a wonderful experience for Robyn over the last four years It not only brought me great pride but it also strengthened my practice of law she says Having experienced Pace s environmental law curriculum as both a student and an adjunct professor Robyn reports that it is top notch Between traditional classes externships and her time

    at Pace as an undergraduate he was unaware that it would be the beginning of a three degree relationship Jason first received his undergraduate degree in Business Administration and also an M B A in 2004 and straight from there Jason enrolled in Law School receiving a J D from Pace in 2007 As an undergraduate Jason received a full academic scholarship to attend Pace University It was his positive experience with Pace as an undergraduate and their generous scholarship offer that led him to pursue his studies in law at Pace Law School While at Pace Law School Jason was an editor on the Pace Law Review and also a Dean s Scholar in Contracts and Civil Procedure After graduating from Pace Law magna cum laude in 2007 Jason began his law career as an associate at Milbank Tweed Hadley McCloy LLP He was part of the Global Transportation Finance Group there From there Jason moved to Hughes Hubbard Reed LLP He remains there as an associate in the firm s corporate and equipment finance group based in the New York office As part of this group Jason has a particular focus on aviation finance He represents financial institutions aircraft leasing companies airlines and private investors in various international financing and leasing transactions Through his time at Hughes Hubbard Jason has been involved in various significant matters He has represented lenders and borrowers in matters involving billions of dollars in financing Jason s firm has been recognized consistently by trade journals as a leader in the field of aviation finance Jason was one of the attorneys who worked on transactions which received industry deal of the year awards Jason s experience at the Law School was just as positive as his experience at Pace undergrad What he really enjoyed
