    s Tennis Team and graduated magna cum laude with a B B A in Public Accounting in 1998 He enjoyed his experience so much with Pace that he decided to pursue his studies in law at Pace Law School While at Pace Law School Joe was a case note and comment editor with Pace Law Review and a Dean s Scholar Joe also has another very significant connection to Pace he met his wife alumna Karyllan Dodson Mack 03 during his time at the Law School After graduating from Pace Law magna cum laude in 2001 Joe began his law career as an associate at White Case where he remained for a little over five years While at White Case he focused on white collar corporate defense work and also handled many pro bono matters Joe moved with the White Case white collar group to Linklaters In May of 2007 Joe was selected by the now Governor Chris Christie to become an Assistant United States Attorney in the District of New Jersey He began in the Violent Crimes Unit before moving to the Securities and Health Care Fraud Unit and then ultimately to the Health Care and Government Fraud Unit in April of 2010 In July of 2013 Joe became the Deputy Chief of the Healthcare Fraud Unit He is responsible for supervising cases in a 16 attorney unit dedicated to the civil and criminal investigation and prosecution of health care fraud fraud upon government programs and agencies and environmental crimes Through these roles Joe has gained significant trial experience in healthcare and violent crime matters In May 2014 Joe became the Acting Chief of the General Crimes Unit In this role he supervises and trains 15 new prosecutors responsible for investigating and prosecuting various criminal offenses including violent crimes

    in the offices of a United States Senator and also a New York State Senator As the child of a Haitian immigrant Miriam understood the challenges that complex immigration laws present to disadvantaged individuals and families Miriam dedicated herself and continues to dedicate herself to providing compassionate and topnotch legal services to immigrants Miriam s hard work paid off in April 2014 when she learned that she had been chosen to serve as an Immigrant Justice Corps IJC Justice Fellow The Justice Fellowship program was initiated by Chief Judge Robert Katzmann of the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit Miriam was selected from among hundreds of applicants and is one of 25 inaugural members The Fellows will provide high quality pro bono legal assistance to immigrants Miriam has been assigned to the City Bar Justice Center of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York Miriam is a 2014 graduate of Pace Law School During her time at Pace she was a student attorney in the Semester in Practice component of the Immigration Justice Clinic at John Jay Legal Services Inc the Law School s free community clinic where she worked closely with Professor Vanessa Merton As a student attorney Miriam took on the most difficult cases intrigued by the complex legal issues She represented a broad range of clients from a whistleblower against police corruption in the Ukraine to two young girls from Senegal seeking to avoid genital mutilation and forced marriage While at Pace Law Miriam also participated in the Public Interest Law Students Organization the Black Law Student Association and the National Immigration Moot Court at NYU Law School Miriam is currently working with Stephanie Ramos 14 a Pace Community Law Practice fellow on an article entitled Toward A Critical Immigration

    in Chicago for almost a decade She was recognized as the Illinois State Bar Association s Young Lawyer of the Year for Cook County in 2011 and named as a 2010 2013 Illinois Rising Star in the environmental litigation category by Illinois Super Lawyers magazine Emily also received the American Bar Association Young Lawyers Division Star of the Quarter Award in 2010 Emily is mother to two year old Elsa and an adopted dachshund shi tzu terrier mix named Waffles after the dog in the Woody Allen movie Manhattan She is also expecting her second child While Emily acknowledges that it may not have been the best decision having a puppy and a young toddler at the same time she remains undaunted She made partner at her prior firm in April 2014 and joined Rooney Rippie Ratnaswamy LLP a boutique environmental energy and litigation firm in Chicago in June 2014 Her practice focuses on advising businesses and individuals in environmental compliance commercial litigation and enforcement matters Emily a native of Chicago and proud Illini that is a graduate of the University of Illinois previously practiced at another firm for over seven years in the areas of banking creditor s rights commercial litigation and environmental law She began her career at the New York City Department of Environmental Protection Emily enjoys environmental law because it is a highly technical field and constantly changing One of her favorite parts of the job is researching how different municipalities address historical contamination issues When asked what she took from Pace that has benefitted her most in her career Emily said My former classmates and Pace alumni have been excellent resources In fact when she moved back to Chicago from New York City she found an unadvertised job opening through an alumni connection Emily advises

    here frequently and also check out our latest e Newsletter and our past e Newsletters to see more news about your classmates Honorable Rory K Brady 12 has had a unique experience since graduating from Pace Law School in 2012 On March 18 2013 Rory was selected to serve as Justice for the Village of Goshen Goshen s Village Court has jurisdiction over a broad range of matters from vehicle and traffic to civil and criminal offenses This made him the youngest judge in Orange County and one of the youngest in New York State Serving as Village Justice has kept Rory extremely busy as the Court hears over 1 500 criminal matters and over 4 000 traffic matters per year While this is a part time position Rory notes that it has full time responsibilities Born and raised in Goshen he wants to be a presence in Court and spends time each day reviewing cases ensuring he is prepared In addition to this Rory is also an associate and business manager with Brady Law Firm the firm his father started in Goshen in 1978 The practice a litigation firm focuses primarily on criminal matrimonial family court and personal injury Additionally Rory handles real estate transactions wills unemployment law and more Recently in the Times Herald Record Rory was voted Readers Choice Top 5 attorney and his firm finished in the top 5 for both Best Real Estate Law Firm and Best Overall Law Firm In addition to his profession endeavors Rory is civically active He a member of the Board of Directors of the Orange County Citizens Foundation the Goshen Chamber of Commerce and John S Burke Catholic High School Rory attributes much of his recent success to his experience at Pace Law School During his time at Pace

    the public good In announcing that Gail had received this Award United States Attorney Loretta E Lynch stated that In her 16 years of service as an Assistant U S Attorney and 11 years as a leading member of the Civil Division s senior management team Gail has one of the most distinguished records of achievement in this district She has supervised thousands of defensive cases personally litigated nearly 500 cases and led a number of our most important cases and has done so across virtually every subject area including defending significant class actions multi million dollar medical malpractice and personal injury claims and challenges to federal statutes regulatory schemes and administrative decisions prosecuting cases pursuant to the False Claims Act the Program Fraud Civil Remedies Act health care regulations the Federal Food Drug and Cosmetic Act environmental statutes and civil forfeiture statutes Gail is a 1987 cum laude graduate of Pace Law School During her time at Pace she was managing editor of the Pace Law Review and received a Special Achievement Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Law School Community In addition to this Gail received the American Jurisprudence Award in Entertainment Law while at Pace Gail recalls the positive experience she had with her Pace Law professors including the late Professor Ralph Stein Professor Michael Mushlin and especially Professor Jay Carlisle Currently Gail is the Deputy Chief of the Civil Division with the United States Attorney s Office for the Eastern District of New York In this role Gail manages the civil division as part of the senior management team supervises defensive practices supervises Assistant United States Attorneys and establishes national policies with various branches of the civil division of the Department of Justice Over the years Gail has played a key role in numerous complex cases

    the right to edit all Class Notes submissions Visit back here frequently and also check out our latest e Newsletter and our past e Newsletters to see more news about your classmates Pace Law alumna Nada K Sizemore 81 receives leadership award from the Connecticut State Bar Association Nada K Sizemore aka Nada K Morin 81 received the 2014 Ladder Award from the Connecticut Bar Association Women in the Law Section in association with the Bar Association s Young Lawyers Section The Award was received at the annual Pathways to Leadership for Women in the Law event This Award honors a female attorney in Connecticut who has demonstrated exceptional leadership affecting women Nada was recognized for her outstanding contributions toward leadership development and empowerment of young attorneys most notably her aggressive recruiting hiring training and mentoring of young female attorneys throughout her many years of practice To read more on Nada receiving the Ladder Award click here Nada is a 1981 cum laude graduate of Pace Law School During her time at Pace she received the inaugural Henry F Feldschuh Award for Excellence in Environmental Law Nada fondly remembers her time at Pace Law School noting that Professor Nick Robinson served as a mentor to her and that many of her legal accomplishments are due in large part to Professor Robinson s inspiration and support during those early law school days She served as inaugural editor of the Pace Environmental Law Newsletter that was the precursor to the numerous environmental publications created by the Pace program today Currently Nada is Associate Group General Counsel at Travelers Insurance and she has been with Travelers for over 23 years She supervises an internal corporate legal team that serves the Travelers Specialized Distribution Business Insurance Group with a specific focus on the transportation

    Program At Tetra Tech he helps supervise permitting of offshore and onshore wind farms from Maine to Hawaii He has or currently supports the siting and permitting of 7 offshore wind parks and interconnections off the Mid Atlantic coast and three in the Great Lakes including off Rhode Island New York New Jersey Delaware Maryland Virginia Ohio and Michigan Now he supports Deepwater Wind s Rhode Island wind farm projects including a cable to Long Island He has also supported the siting of two other wind farms south of Long Island for interconnection to Long Island and NYC Mr Ernst was a member of the Tetra Tech team supporting the Bluewater Wind proposal and interviewed with NYPA to construct an offshore wind farm in Lake Erie and met with NYSDEC and PSC staff to discuss permitting that project An active member of the Offshore Wind Development Coalition Mr Ernst has met numerous times with staff of the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management and the Department of Interior to help streamline the BOEMRE leasing process As Vice President of Permitting and Siting for TransEnergie US Ltd Mr Ernst helped permit the Cross Sound submarine transmission cable to Long Island Sound He served as General Counsel and Legislative Director of the Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities and as a Hearing Officer for the Massachusetts Energy Facilities Siting Board and as Counsel to the Joint Committee on Energy of the Massachusetts Legislature Michael Snyder New York State Department of State Michael Snyder is an Ocean and Lakes Policy Analyst at the New York State Department of State where he has a key role in developing and advancing an offshore renewable energy agenda for New York Among his duties he leads the renewable energy component of an offshore planning effort recently initiated by the Department and is an active participant in the development of the 2013 New York State Energy Plan He is involved in a number of interstate and federal partnerships seeking to advance appropriate offshore wind energy development in the Mid Atlantic region Prior to returning to New York Mike was a policy advisor at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration NOAA in Washington DC He led the agency s involvement in the creation of the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands Marine National Monument and advised NOAA and Department of Commerce leadership on issues related to marine transportation resource protection and coastal zone management He began his career in public service as a Knauss Marine Policy Fellow at the U S Senate Committee on Commerce Science and Transportation Mike received a Master of Public Administration degree from Syracuse University s Maxwell School and a Master of Science degree in Ecology from the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry He received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Scranton HYDROKINETIC ENERGY PANEL Professor Ann Powers Moderator Pace Law School Center for Environmental Legal Studies Professor Powers is a faculty member of the Center for Environmental Legal Studies where she teaches a range
