  • Nicholas Triffin Environmental Law Research Fund | Pace Law School
    settling into his chosen career He received his M L S from Rutgers University Nick began his career in law librarianship as Assistant Law Librarian at the University of Connecticut He moved on to the directorship of the Hamline Law School Library In 1984 Nick accepted the position of director of the Pace Law School Law Library Professor Triffin created the Law Library s environmental law research collection at a time when few would have appreciated its significance Nick also directed the Criminal Law Program in its early stages and was Director of the Institute of International Commercial Law He retired as Library Director in 1998 and taught international law and advanced legal research until his death In 2000 Nick succumbed to Lou Gehrig s disease He set an example of Courage Resolution and Honor in the face of great adversity About the Fund Pace Law Library s renowned Environmental Law collection supports the research of the Law School s J D LL M and S J D students as well as the research of Pace faculty and visiting scholars from around the world The Triffin Environmental Research Fund was created to honor the memory of Professor Nicholas Triffin Pace

    checked out in their name Materials should not be checked out by Pace ID holders for non Pace patrons In the past this practice has frequently led to a delinquent account for the Pace ID holder who is required to pay the overdue fine or book replacement costs in order to graduate or to register for the following semester Fines A fine of 10 per day is imposed for each overdue book borrowed by Pace faculty staff and students For Friends of Pace Law Library the fine is 1 00 per day The fine for overdue reserve books is 50 for each hour or any part of an hour for all library patrons For lost or damaged books the amount of the fine will be based on the extent of the damage to the book or the cost of replacing it plus a 20 processing fee for each lost or damaged book All payments must be paid in cash or by check Failure of a student to pay a fine is reported to the Registrar s Office Students with delinquent accounts will not be permitted to receive transcripts register for classes or graduate Searches and Holds A book which is not in its place in the library stacks may be found in a number of other places A search of carrels and tables may locate unshelved books as may a search of the photocopier areas on the main floor stack level 3 and stack level 1 Books waiting to be shelved are placed on holding shelves located near the elevator on each stack level Books recently returned might also be on a book truck behind the Circulation Desk If a book is checked out you may request that it be held for you upon return by clicking the link in

    Request for materials that are not available from any Pace University library Not sure how to set up an ILL account Instructions are available here Before submitting requests carefully check the Pace University online catalog for local holdings Interlibrary Loan Policies Members of the Pace Law School community may submit electronic requests for research materials that are not found in the Pace University catalog if an item is checked out ask if it can be recalled available online or that are needed in hard copy Note Requests for photocopies will only be processed if they comply with U S copyright law U S C Title 17 and CONTU guidelines You will receive e mail notification when requested materials arrive and you will pick them up at the Law Library Circulation Desk Pace Law Library underwrites all costs for obtaining research materials unless prohibitive In that case patrons will have the opportunity to assume responsibility for the costs The Law Library is NOT responsible for overdue charges on borrowed materials or for charges for lost or damaged materials imposed by the lending library WALDO consortium members and certain other libraries may borrow or lend materials directly when prior arrangements are made

    are located on the main floor level 3 opposite the Reference Desk You do not need to log in to these computers Laptop computers Laptop computers may be used anywhere in the Library Laptop computers may not be connected to any Law Library printer Such unauthorized usage will be treated as an abuse of school property and a violation of Pace University s Appropriate Use Policy for Information Technology Contact Law ITS for assistance in configuring your laptop for use with the Pace wireless network Law ITS is located in on the 3rd floor of Aloysia 914 422 4290 Wireless network Wireless network access is available throughout the Library Click here to check the availability and status of the wireless network Printing Networked computers are connected to shared laser printers in the computer lab Pace Law School students are credited with 30 for printing per semester fall spring and summer Students must contact the Office of Student Assistance in order to add money to their printing accounts Printing costs 6 cents per side of page More information about printing is available here Pace Law students have access to a dedicated laser printer provided by Lexis This printer is located in the Computer Lab There is no charge for Lexis printing if search results are sent to the dedicated printer Lexis Westlaw and Bloomberg Law All current Pace University School of Law students are issued passwords by LexisNexis and Westlaw legal research systems for comprehensive research in primary and secondary legal materials from all United States jurisdictions and some foreign jurisdictions as well Both systems also have large databases of non law materials The passwords allow students to access Lexis and Westlaw from any computer with Internet access Students can also obtain Bloomberg Law passwords directly from Bloomberg Use of the

    An extra copy of McKinney s statutes The Official Code Rules and Regulations of the State of New York NYCRR The Rules of the City of New York The Administrative Charter and Code of the City of New York These materials may be checked out for a two hour time period by current Pace Law students for use in the Library and the study rooms on the second and third floors of Glass Other patrons may check out these materials for in library use only for a two hour time period You must leave a photo ID at the Circulation Desk when you check out these materials 2 Materials which are on Course Reserve These include recently released copies of final exams photocopies of articles sample briefs assignments etc supplied to us by professors Materials are added to Course Reserve during the semester and are removed and returned to the faculty at the end of the semester Lists of reserve materials required or recommended by professors for specific courses are available through Pace s online catalog Course Reserve materials may be checked out for a two hour time period by current Pace Law students for use in the Library and in the study rooms on the second and third floors of Glass You must leave a photo ID at the Circulation Desk when checking out these materials In some instances professors will request that their materials circulate for less than two hours at a time due to anticipated high usage rates during a short period of time Materials subject to these rules will be labeled as such and students checking out these materials will be notified of the shorter borrowing period 3 Materials which are on Course Reserve because their format does not allow for storage in the stacks Examples

    Law students faculty and staff Requests for access should be made at least 24 hours in advance to Vicky Gannon Head of Circulation 914 422 4369 ALLDOG Pace Law Library is a member of the Academic Law Library Directors of Greater New York ALLDOG which also includes the Brooklyn Cardozo CUNY Fordham Hofstra New York Law School Rutgers St John s Seton Hall and Touro law libraries Pace Law School students and faculty may use any of these libraries to consult resources that our library does not have Please request a green letter from any Reference Librarian for admittance to these libraries The green letter and a valid Pace ID are needed to ensure admittance CUNY requires only a current valid law school ID Specific materials both monographs and photocopies may be borrowed only through interlibrary loan If students need semester long access these arrangements can also be made by Vicky Gannon Students who need to consult material held by Columbia Law Library NYU Law Library or the library of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York also need to request a green letter These libraries make their facilities available only when material is not available elsewhere and are not available for semester long access METRO METRO is composed of over two hundred member libraries including the Pace libraries Any Reference Librarian may issue a METRO referral card which is intended to give researchers access to a specific item or a collection which is normally not accessible to the general public Participation in the referral card program is voluntary Some libraries have access restrictions and none allow borrowing Specific materials both books and photocopies may be obtained through interlibrary loan WALDO The Westchester Academic Library Directors Organization WALDO is a cooperative venture among academic libraries in
