    incredible group of friends during law school who I still am in contact with even after all these years Most of all she credits her perseverance through law school and her successful legal career to her family as she puts it they did it all together Alumni Highlights Archive Class Notes Spring 2015 CLASS NOTES 1982 Hon Francesca Leibold Connolly was appointed by NYS Chief Administrative Judge A Gail Prudenti to the position of Associate Justice of the Appellate Term of the Supreme Court second Department Ninth and Tenth Judicial Districts In this capacity she will hear appeals from the District City Town and Village courts in Suffolk Nassau Westchester Rockland Orange Dutchess and Putnam counties This assignment is in addition to her current duties as a Supreme Court Justice Ninth Judicial District where she presides over a general civil calendar and the Ninth Judicial District Environmental Claims Part She has been serving as a Supreme Court Justice since 2009 1987 Fredric I Green has been appointed chief of the Special Prosecutions Division and a second deputy district attorney 1988 Joseph A Saccomano was elected to the Board of Directors for the Business Council of Westchester Joseph is the Office Managing Shareholder of the White Plains and Albany offices of Jackson Lewis P C 1989 Dr Nader J Sayegh was praised for his countless contributions to society in a statement issued by Rep Eliot L Engel Dr Sayegh s passion for community involvement was noted specifically through his service on various Boards Robert J Waine has joined the firm of Dinsmore Shohl LLP He will practice out of the corporate department and work with the real estate group 1990 Susan M Corcoran was honored as a Distinguished 2014 Empire State Counsel by the New York State Bar Association NYSBA for her extraordinary pro bono efforts in 2014 Joseph A Ruhl has joined Orange Bank and Trust Company as a regional president Previous to this he was with Hudson Valley bank as seinor vice president and division executive in charge of its legal services division 1993 Marla E Wieder was elected Secretary of the New York State Bar Association Environmental Law section She also received the Environmental Section Council Award this year Nicholas M Ward Willis was elected to a one year term on the Executive Committee of the New York State Bar Association Environmental Law section 1994 R Nadine Fontaine was appointed Assistant Counsel to the Governor with a focus on Human Services Prior to this she was at Epiq Systems Inc where she was a Director 1997 Carl L Finger LLM was elected as a trustee for the Village Board in Scarsdale Carl is a member of Fingers Finger P C a White Plains law firm Joseph A Sarcinella was elected to Partner at Thompson Knight LLP His practice is concentrated on real estate finance and corporate matters 1998 David I Aboulafia s first book a dark psychological horror novel entitled Visions Through a Glass Darkly will be released

    a towering assignment is exactly the kind of challenge that excites and inspires David Yassky It s going to be a ball he quipped when he took office last April as Pace Law School s 10th dean MORE Faculty Spotlight Immigration A Conversation with Vanessa Merton Long an advocate for immigration reform both in and out of the classroom Professor Vanessa Merton infuses her students with an appreciation for the historical context and economic implications of American immigration law as she inspires a commitment to work towards assuring basic legal representation and development of a regulatory system that prioritizes equite and consistency even in changing political times At Pace Law School Professor Merton directs the Immigration Justice Clinic IJC Student attorneys authorized to practice law under faculty supervision handle the immigration law problems of indigent people in the lower Hudson Valley The students represent clients before federal agencies Immigration Courts the Board of Immigration Appeals the Second Circuit and even the U S Supreme Court The IJC s overall job Professor Merton likes to say is law enforcement making sure that the U S government obeys its own laws President Obama s recent immigration policy announcements have created a tidal wave of discussion so we sat down with Professor Merton to gather her views MORE Focus on Pro Bono Scholars Pace Law School joined a state wide initiative that benefits our students and also benefits communities the Pro Bono Scholars Program Initiated by Chief Judge Jonathan Lippman and announced in his 2014 State of the Judiciary address the Pro Bono Scholars Program seeks to help fill what Judge Lippman calls the justice gap the lack of legal services available to low and middle income individuals The program allows students to spend their final semester of law school performing pro bono
