  • Dean Sattler 2007 | Pace Law School
    Prior to attending law school Dean Sattler spent a year working with a team of lawyers and forensic accountants on a high profile corporate investigation I was intrigued by the process of retrospectively piecing together complex transactions and key events and using that data to make sense of what really happened said Sattler The long hours and intensity didn t matter It was exciting work It was that experience that led him to consider a career in law In 2007 he graduated with honors from Pace Law School where he served as editor in chief of the Pace Law Review Since graduation Sattler has been as associate at Milbank Tweed Hadley McCloy where he is a member of the firm s Global Corporate Group based in New York He resides in New York City with his wife Dana Chrisomalis 07 and two month old son Louis For Sattler the Pace experience was transformative Pace was an open and enriching environment I consider myself lucky to have had professors who took an active interest in the quality of my legal education and my career goals As part of the judicial honors program he interned with a federal judge in the Southern District of New York an experience that enabled him to further hone the skills he acquired as a Pace Law student Sattler s legal practice at Milbank includes representing public and private companies in a broad range of industries and transactions focusing on cross border mergers acquisitions and investments as well as capital markets and securities transactions He also regularly advises clients on general corporate matters Actively involved in Milbank s Corporate Governance Group Sattler also spends a significant amount of his time keeping up to speed with the latest corporate case law securities regulations and best practice governance trends

    to one team per school The team is comprised of two or three law students COMMUNICATION Official correspondence from the NELMCC office will be directed ONLY to the person listed as the team contact on the registration form It is the responsibility of the team contact to distribute all NELMCC correspondence to each member of the team PROBLEM The legal Problem drafted each year involves timely issues of national importance to the practice of environmental law The Problem will be distributed by email only on or about October 2 2015 to the team contact of all schools whose registration is complete The Board will accept questions pertaining to the Problem until the deadline of October 26 2015 pursuant to Rule II B BRIEFS Each team will write a brief for one of the respective parties legal positions Content legal analysis and accuracy of the briefs are graded by practicing environmental attorneys Briefs are also graded for correct Bluebook citation spelling punctuation and format Refer to the competition Rules for more information In accordance with Rule IV the measuring brief and six other copies of the brief identified only by team number must be mailed or otherwise shipped to the NELMCC office in a single package bearing a postmark or other indicia that proves the mailing date The package shall be sent using expedited delivery from a shipper or postal service so that it arrives at the NELMCC office no later than two days from the date of the postmark or indicia The team must retain proof of mailing such as a receipt with the transaction date from the shipper or postal service and a tracking number assigned by the shipper for delivery verification The briefs shall be postmarked no later than December 1 2015 A deduction will be applied to late mailings see Rule IV C 1 d OFFICIAL RULES The competition rules are posted on the NELMCC website ORAL ROUNDS Oral arguments begin with the preliminary rounds on Thursday February 18 and conclude with the final round on Saturday afternoon February 20 Each argument will feature three adverse teams Scoring in the preliminary rounds is based on a combination of the brief scores and scores from the oral arguments Scoring in the later rounds is based solely on oral performance Judges evaluating the oral arguments include attorneys with environmental law expertise local attorneys Pace faculty members and judges from the Nation s courts At least two and in most courtrooms three judges will comprise a bench for the lower rounds Final round judges will be members of the federal bench and the US EPA Environmental Appeals Board Competitors may not use laptops or any other electronic devices including but not limited to iPads and cell phones in the courtroom Refer to the NELMCC Rules for more information OBSERVING THE ORAL ARGUMENTS Coaches are allowed to observe quietly in the audience No written or oral communication may occur between coaches and team members or judges during the oral arguments With

    forms GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT JUDGING Preliminary rounds are scheduled for Thursday February 18 from 9 30 11 30 am 2 00 4 00 pm and Friday February 19 from 9 30 11 30 am on the law school campus in White Plains New York Interested attorneys are requested to complete and return a judging form to the NELMCC office Confirmation and judging materials will be sent to registered attorneys Attorneys should arrive 30 minutes prior to their scheduled round for final instructions CLE CREDITS FOR JUDGING Attorneys admitted to the New York bar for more than two years may earn two practice credits per round of judging Attorneys in states other than New York will need to check with the state s CLE department to determine if the program will satisfy its requirements Attorneys must sign in and out on the attendance sheet before and after each round of judging in order to receive CLE credits According to New York State CLE rules newly admitted attorneys attorneys admitted to the bar less than two years from the competition date cannot earn CLE credits for judging moot court competitions ETHICS CLE PROGRAM 2016 Ethical Challenges for Environmental Lawyers In cosponsorship with the ABA Section of Environmental Energy and Resources we are pleased to offer an ethics CLE program free of charge to attorneys who judge at least one round of the 2016 Competition Interested attorneys should complete the CLE registration form on the Judging Brochure if planning to attend Preregistration is strongly urged DATE Friday February 19 2016 TIME 1 00 3 00 pm LOCATION Judicial Institute Lecture Hall adjacent to Pace Law School CLE CREDITS 2 ethics MODERATOR Pamela Esterman Principal Sive Paget Riesel P C PANELISTS Fern Fleischer Daves Assistant General Counsel ITT Corporation Stephen Quigley General Manager North
